Nice hotel, quirky. Though the music in the bar/restaurant was a bit loud. Other than that a nice enough stay. Lacking in wardrobe space but okay for an overnight close to the M1.

The hotel had a wedding on the day of our stay, which they used as the reason for very poor service and staff rudeness in the Restaurant. No Manager available to assist with over charging, inappropriate comments, cold food and very slow service. Won’t stay there again in the future.

Cold, shabby rooms. No proper wardrobe space. Scratched paintwork and threadbare carpets. Old shabby furniture. The hotel lounges, bar and reception areas were very cold. Dinner for 8 guests was a disaster as two meals were served cold. When asked to reheat, and did not return, our 2 guests told them to cancel as the rest of the group had nearly finished eating. The meals came back a good 10 minutes after the rest of the guests had finished, but were taken away again. Our 2 guests decided to go home, clearly and visibly upset and the remaining guests were extremely embarrassed. When we complained we were offered one drink. No meaningful apology. A member of kitchen staff came out and started laughing as though this was a joke. He said he had a wedding party to look after and gave us the impression that other paying guests were not his priority. Conversation between staff and guests got heated with staff now being belligerent resulting in a (allegedly) racist remark directed towards one of our party. We wanted to speak to the GM only to be told she had gone home. The following morning she was still not available. The bill for the whole dinner was charged to one member of the party who they managed to find out their room number. PLUS AN EXTRA DINNER i.e. 9 dinners. She DID NOT AUTHORISE THIS TRANSACTION. She will be escalating this complaint to the highest authority, as this episode was a complete disgrace.

Ive used this hotel for over 20 years when travelling for business in the area. Always a clean room, nice food, drinks and friendly staff. However last night there was a 'group in' and it seemed that no one else really mattered. I asked to book a table for 1 at 19.00 to be told that there was a group in and they couldn't really fit me in. After a 5 hour drive not what i wanted to hear. I was offered the bar to eat which didnt meet my expectations so i pushed back a little and the bookings manager fitted me in at 19.00. I arrived a little early as there was only 2 other people in the restaurant area. I was accommodated immediately. I was told i could have the table until 20.15 which was ample. I was sat on a table where i had to use my phone torch to read the menu.The back ground lighting could do with turning up! Food was as ever excellent if rushed as there were very few other customers using the restaurant. Presumably the decks were cleared waiting for the more important 'group' to arrive. I left the restaurant at 19.45 well ahead of my allotted time. Breakfast was moved to the bar area this morning - a first in 20 years. I believe this was because of the 'group' having use of the restaurant (it was empty at 07.00). Not a problem but it felt less organised for a more meagre selection. Groups will contribute more financially but it should not be at the cost of loyal returning customers. Im here again tonight so look forward to things returning to normal.

Disappointed. Looks like a Village Hotel, but it's not as good. They have tried with the decor, but overall the hotel is tired and needs work. Check-in didn't give me basic information and were more interested in taking a card pre-authorisation. Again room decor is nice, but it's tired - worn carpets, cracked tiling in bathroom and worn furniture, no sockets by bed. Had to leave shower for 10mins to warm up and even then was only lukewarm. Herringbone flooring in bar area all loose and coming up. On the plus side - comfy bed/pillows, quiet, decent food and service. Overall won't be staying again.
