You have more chance of seeing an erected Eiffel Tower in Lagos than having free WiFi with complimentary breakfast offered with your room as described on the Hotel.com site for this place called PARIS Suites.
I was delighted when while in Lagos, Trivago brought up Paris Suites as an available nearby hotel and directed me to Hotels.com to book it.
I already use the Hotel.com app so it was very easy to finish booking the hotel and pay for it using my Amex card they have on file.
Armed with my confirmation I went confidently to the hotel only to get the shock of my life to be told that I had been scammed!
I was told that I had been the third person it was happening to in recent times.
Somebody claiming to be the actual owner of the hotel was called and he insisted that they have no online booking arrangement ever.
He claimed not to know why there was an Abidjan, Ivory Coast contact telephone number under the address of property, which he called without any response.
My booking was refused and since I needed a room desperately at that hour the only option was to pay again in cash.
I was charged the same price found on Hotel.com which was paid in the equivalent local currency.
The hotel had no WiFi and did not give complimentary breakfast.
The room was a decent size but dangerously had some exposed live wires hanging from an empty socket.
The shower head was missing from the hose making it look like one long tap
