In an area overrun by mass tourism, it was an intimate and very enjoyable experience, combining the best of Cambodian hospitality, Japanese grace and attention to detail as well as French style. Amatao is in a completely rural setting, well away from the crowds of Siem Reap, but within easy striking distance of the Angkor complex and the airport. This is actually a tiny compound of a few guest cabins but with all modern conveniences, very well decorated and offering excellent food. The owner-manager, Naomi-san, is a charming Japanese lady who ensures that everything works well and also doubles as chef. When I was asked what my preferences were for breakfasts and dinners, I asked if they could be "Omakase" and at each meal I was presented with an amazing variety of dishes, each expertly prepared, beautifully presented and served with gentle Cambodian grace.

サービスはとても素晴らしいです！
ただ、設備はちょっと古いようです。
特に、写真を見てとても楽しみにしていたバスタブで
・バスタブにお湯を張るとその後のシャワーはとてもぬるくなる
（タンクに溜まった200リットルのお湯がなくなるとぬるくなる設備です）
・お湯が黄色い
（水道管かどこか分かりませんが、内部が錆びついているようで金属臭がするのと、見た目にも金属の錆があるのが分かります）
・ジェットバスを使用中に故障したらしく、ジェットバスを停止できなくなった
（これにより一晩中ジェットバスを付けるハメになり、ジェットバスを付けていると異様な早さでお湯が蒸発していき、数時間毎に起きてお湯を足しに行かないとお湯がジェットの勢いでバスタブから飛び出して周辺がびちゃびちゃに濡れて物凄い騒音を出すようになった）
という事があり、これは大変ショックでした。
特に3つ目の現象には大事な睡眠を阻害されてしまい、とても辛かったです。
また、部屋を歩いている時に二度も蜂を踏みました。
一度目は既に死んでいる蜂を踏んづけただけなのですが、二度目はまだ生きてる状態で踏んでしまったため、足の裏を刺されてしまいました。
痛みは時間経過とともに増していき、数日後のアンコールワットを含む遺跡巡りのツアーはとても歩きづらく、かばって歩いていたら疲れてしまい、半分以上は車で待機するハメになってしまいました。
今まで5年間くらいで200泊以上してきましたが、部屋に蜂がいたことは初めてでした。
