The Hongqiao State Guest Hotel consists of several low buildings in a quiet and peaceful setting, protected by trees and a gate from the busy main drag of Hongqiao. State guests are put up here (as the name implies) and the rooms and lobby are quite elegant. The buildings are not beautiful, though; the restaurants are very expensive (and has few vegetarian options for lunch and dinner; breakfast is good); the fitness facility is adequate but not attractive; and some of the service is rude and perfunctory.

Beautiful gardens. Very unique green area in built-up Shanghai. This used to be a state guest house for dignitaries. The rooms are slightly dated but very comfortable. Staff was eager to help.

The hotel is in lush grounds. There are lots of staff always on duty to help. You feel special staying at a place that was once for top Party officials. The area is quite good and away from the bustle of the downtown Shanghai. Transport links are good with one of the airports and a train station not far away.

Overall a very pleasant experience and quite comfortable with serving good food in their restaurants.

This is a Chinese hotel, not an international chain. We were upgraded to a room in Building 7 which was very quiet and secluded. The room was large. The public areas were beautiful. The gardens attractive. A lot of staff did not understand English but we managed in the end. Check in was very slow.

This is a very nice and quiet hotel in a very good neighborhood. Room is very clean and comfort. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Subway station and bus stop is right at the corner.

It was a great Stay, briefly - Great location inside & out side (A resort style low rise hotel). Great swimming pool - warm water and the hall was also warm. Great gym. Very polite and well trained staff in general. Good buffet at reasonable price. Very central, walking distance from Shanghai Mart(1km) & Lowei Jei (3KM) (Famous bar street) Over all a very good experience, Will surely come back again when ever in Shanghai.

Within its own grounds and the leisure centre is but a golf cart ride away so was all good. I did not eat here so cannot comment on that element but everything was good if not great so would recommend it
