Blood stained on the bed sheets! When I requested to change the bed sheets, the staff told me that its their policy to change every 3 days!!

The room is very tiny, curtains and carpets are very dusty and duty, our room facing the carpark, and smoke keep coming up, if you are looking for hotel near the college, better stay inside the campus.

Excellent all round service from helpful and friendly staff. Convenient location in the Centre of Marlborough with parking.

Historic property in the centre of Marlborough. Very convenient for the town and a good base to explore the local area. Food was good and staff helpful although they were busy. Room was well equipped and only thought was that it was looking a bit tired decor wise. Very comfy bed so no complaints. Would definitely stay again.

Comfortable and easy access to where we going.

Bed comfortable but room very tired, headboard worn on the back and catty and no lamp shade on the lamp, generally just tired looking.

Menu options, portion size and prompt service were all very good. Accommodation was clean and comfortable

great position, great staff and spacious comfortable, clean rooms. The parking was useful as well

Hotel needs some love and refreshing, carpets taped up in bar/restaurant area and some of decor could do with a touch up. On the plus side the Breakfast was great the hot food cooked to order was really good

I didn't like the fact that the bedside light was a bare bulb with no lampshade.

This inn is old and rooms, while clean, comfortable, and very serviceable, are tired and could use some updating. The staff was very helpful with luggage, etc. I’ll certainly visit again.

It was a good stay but with one problem. We were in a first floor room and experienced an unsatisfactory amount of noise from the room above, caused by incredibly squeaky floor boards. It’s an old hotel with lots of character but some kind of sound insulation is need for this room.

The room was fine, old fashioned but comfortable. inconvenient that there were painters painting the stairs I had to climb. I was told (as an elderly person alone) that if I needed to know anything I could ring 0 for the night porter, but when I rang at 6.30am to see what time breakfast was, it didn't ring out and nobody answered.

What a lovely place to stay

Fantastic location. The hotel is in much need of a make over and a deep clean. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and the walls dirty. The staff were however really friendly and helpful.

I stay there a lot when flying into or out of Heathrow. It's very convenient. The staff are always nice and parking is good and central. Then of course, it's super convenient for the prehistoric stone circle at Avebury and also a good place for Stonehenge. If you want a modern place, this isn't for you, but if you don't mind things being 17th Century,maybe it is.

All of the staff I encountered were very friendly, helpful and professional, especially the evening waitress who was very observant, responding within seconds if I looked at her for something. Food was good too, including the veggie options and good value for money & the bar man knew his wines. It was a little worn around the edges, but it is a 300 year old building so it's like slipping on your old comfy slippers!

We enjoyed a very good stopover on the way back from Cornwall at the Castle and Ball. It has all the character of an historic inn, though this does mean there are quite a lot of steps and stairs and creaky floorboards, but the receptionist was quick to offer us help with our luggage and in fact we found our room very quiet (we were at the back, so not overlooking the High Street) as well as clean and spacious. General decor and condition ( carpets etc) not the most swish or up to date, but we prefer character to the bland sameness of chain hotels. We enjoyed our evening meal which is from the same Greene King menu we have experienced elsewhere, but offers a good choice of dishes at reasonable cost, and the clever idea of mini- desserts if you don't want a whole large one at the end of your meal . Parking was easy behind the hotel, and free to residents on registration at Reception. Marlborough is a lovely old town, prosperous, with some good shops along the High Street. World Heritage site, Avebury, is a short drive away. Thoroughly recommended.
