I very much enjoyed my stay at the Hope Inn in Kolkata. It is a simple, small and quiet three-story hotel in an alley right near where I wanted to be. The rooms are very basic, but the Inn was staffed 24 hours a day - helping me feel very safe as a woman traveling alone. I appreciated the availability of air conditioning in a hot week in Kolkata. The feeling of safety and being taken care of that I had there. Their early check-in time, immediate help in carrying my bags, and in helping me use the air conditioner, repairing electricity, etc. The availability of filtered water, a hot pot for tea, etc. Their ability to speak English. The stars above about the area and are to give you as a Western visitor an idea of what to expect. The room was a wonderful personal nest for me in a big city.
