hotel around TAKAYAMA, Ascend Hotel Collection

Carpark is limited and have to find my own carpark which is quite a distance from the hotel

The hotel is only a block away from Takayama station and is an easy walk to the touristy Old Town. The staff were great and the room was nice. The Onsen was not bad.

Great location, friendly staff, nice room

The family room was spacious for 5 mattresses on an elevated platform. Modern, clean and with the basic amenities, the room served as a good base for our trip. The hotel itself is new with bikes for rent for visitors and is 200meters from the station. The lobby has a small restaurant and a side that features a map of Takayama and its attractions. There is also an album for attractions and restaurants to visit with visitors handwritten reviews on each. It’s not as near to the old town as other accommodations but it is not that far either. For those who want to stay in a new, clean hotel, this is a good choice. P.S. they have a public bath for men and women and a private bath by reservation one can enjoy after walking around.

Very friendly staff

Hotel at Takayama is ok. Staff not really engaged, diverted from breakfast as they were closing it at 10( it was 9 am??). Self check in what a crock just an excuse to have less staff. Room window leaked air alll night with a whine sound. Great town shame about hotel

The property was clean, but it seemed like they were trying to limit any service interaction as much as they could - I understand they are saying they are being eco friendly and efficient, but limited dinner service (they said I could only order room service, but when I called room service no one answered), and limiting most interaction with staff, lots of noisy guests, made the stay less enjoyable. That said, I would say the staff we did interact with made an effort, but they were limited to the sparse services made available to us. The proximity to Old Town and the bus center was a big plus.

The breakfast was very good. The room was relatively large and had a nice bench seating area. We were able to walk from the train station and to the bus station for Shirakawa. The hotel seemed to have plenty of parking, though we did not use it. They had loaner umbrellas by the front door.

Great 3 night stay. Amazing staff and beautiful Japanese breakfast. The hot spring bath was a nice bonus. Highly recommend and would stay again.

What we liked: The check-in process went smoothly where an employee (by the way, she spoke English very well) guided us through the steps on their check-in machine. Very nicely decorated room with the dark blue accents and grey wallpaper. Very large comfortable bed with comfortable pillows. The hotel is located right next to Takayama Station. We had a view of the mountains and some religious building called Sukyo Mahikari. Quiet location. We really appreciated all the recommendations the hotel had in the lobby for local food and sightseeing. So thoughtful and well presented. The self-serve locker storage is free, very convenient and easy to use. There are lockers for smaller luggage and there are cable locks for larger luggage. We liked the 2-piece pajamas the hotel provided us. What we think can be improved: The bathroom is nice and spacious but it smelled slightly of humidity, probably because of the bathtub, because for some reason, these Japanese hotels don’t put caulking around the bathtub and the water seeps into the crack around the wall. We put the Do not Disturb sign and they still gave us new towels, even though we’re only staying 2 nights. So we went to return the new towels bag at the lobby reception.

Hotspring quite small

It was very morden and clean. The food at the restaurant was very tasty. Staff were very friendly. Only the spa was very small and crowded. Otherwise I was very satisfied

We were upgraded on arrival. The largest bed I’ve ever seen! Plenty of space in the room and very reasonable rate.

Really close to train and bus and bus stations, great restaurants. Very clean hotel

big room with 3 single beds and sofa area in it , also separate dinning room .. very comfortable stay for 3 adults .. good location too.. highly recommended

Staff was wonderful, check in was a breeze. Room was classy and clean, hot spring also very nice. My room plan did not include breakfast. Location also good. Few min walk to train station and lots of food options. Only problem we had was with the parking. The parking lot didn’t allow us to enter initially when there are still available spaces inside. After the staff came out and assisted, we could go in and park. I was informed to bring the ticket to front desk for waiving of parking charges for hotel guests. However when I check out and exit the car park, parking fee of 3000 yen was demanded for two nights. I think the communication could be improved regarding the parking charges, such that guests will have the correct expectation.

Feels like a new hotel with nice amenities. Good location, right beside the bus terminal. Amazing service and comfy vibes from the moment we stepped in!

Kumon san at the hotel reception was very helpful since it’s our first time staying at the hotel and didn’t know where to go for dinner. She recommended very good nearby restaurants. A minor feedback about the breakfast. We had the same japanese breakfast for three consecutive days . I would they might want to change the menu a little . Also there was no salmon fish in the bento box on the third day of our stay ( checking out anyway)

Beautiful property with useful amenities and a lovely onset. Really enjoyed our time here - highly recommend to anyone visiting Takayama Gifu
