I didn't actually stay at their apartments, but felt compelled to write this out of appreciation for their staff and management.
I had made an emergency booking at 11pm due to a very last minute flight cancellation, but didn't realize that they were not a hotel, and also failed to see the small print about late check-in arrangements. With no working cell phone and no way to enter the premises upon arrival, I ended up walking to a nearby hotel and getting a room. At around 2a.m. I received an email from the Metropolitan with check in instructions, but it was obviously too late by then. The next morning I walked to their office/reception to find out possibilities for a refund. The manager I spoke to was very understanding towards my situation, and wasted no time in getting permission from her superior to authorize a full refund.
I'm still following through with that procedure on Expedia, but in any case I was impressed with The Metropolitan's fairness and integrity. On one hand, my booking had been marked as 'no cancellation or changes', so they could have easily turned me away. Instead, they accepted that I hadn't used their services and chose to take responsibility for the delayed check-in information. They even agreed to call a taxi for me to catch my flight!
I'm very grateful and will definitely stay with them the next time I'm in town.
