Family of 4 traveling with 2 boys 6 & 11. There was so much to at the resort as you could walk between the 4 resorts and use most of the amenities (except the adults-only if you booked at one of the others). We stayed at the Tropical and it had the best buffet with widest selection. The caribe had the worst selection and no one grilling food any time we went for lunch? The restaurants were good, our favorites were the tepenyaki and steakhouse where they made my oldest boys birthday fairly special. We walked around quite a bit, but just in the resort we walked on average 20K steps per day which made for a surprisingly active holiday, things are laid out really well and by day 3 you should know how to get around within 5-10 minutes of any building on the property. Entertainment was mediocre, they had a few good shows, the theatre's are quite impressive in size but we the Christmas specials were a bit of a flop. Overall probably a 7.5/10. If you want good entertainment, the Hardrock Riviera Maya for families was awesome!

December 25 to 31 2025 The resort is “HUGE” but the seating choices at pool or beach all get taken from people putting towels to reserve since 6:00 am. Making reservation for dining at duration of our 6 day stay and we had no options to dine anywhere of the specialty or themed restaurants (and this happened to multiple guests. I asked the resort employee in charge of making reservations wha our options were and her answer was “you can eat at the buffet every day”! This is the same place you have breakfast and if you want also you can have lunch. I said to her that was not a great solution and that maybe a credit or some sort of compensation should be given to all of us that couldn’t get this service since one of the attraction and reason for staying and paying at the all inclusive is the choices of dining at different themed ethnic restaurants each night! The reservation person proceeded to tell me “o well! and anyway your only allowed three restaurants during your stay” in a very rude an nasty way (her name was NINA) so I asked her to show me where on the website description of amenities it stipulated this but of course she couldn’t produce the claim! I proceeded to speak to a manager and he managed to get us 2 restaurants but at 5:00 pm ( who eats dinner at 5!.. ) Our room was not cooling sufficiently so I called since the day we arrived but they never came to fix!

I left CAD 5$ bills (3.64 usd) 3 mornings in a row - then 1$ USD - then 50 pecos - they did not take it - I left it all there when I left. - they did not keep the room - made up - did not keep fridge stocked every day - had a hard time getting large bills changed to leave tips - would have left more if service was better. I had 5 rooms for my family.- this was the only room that this happened to

The food at the buffet was such poor low quality. Try to book the private restaurants they have which is a bit better than the buffet.

The room was very clean, the service was outstanding as usual. We visit Barcelo Maya hotels every year and are happy with place where staff makes you fill yourself at home!

Definitely recommend, never felt over crowded at the restaurants, pool or on the beach.

Resort was well kept, staff friendly and loved the small chocolate candy put on my bed.

Everything was great. A must return! Only dislike was food was very bland. Not much spice to be had

While the buffet had a wide variety of food choices most of the food was either cold or slightly warm. While the decor of the unit we stayed in was visually pleasing it was in need of some repair work. Our first unit had a ceiling leak after a heavy rainfall. We were eventually moved to a second unit but for whatever reason the bedding felt damp and the bathroom tissue was always limp.

Clean rooms, restaurants within walking distance. I like the covered walkway between the hotel and the lobby

For the price we paid for this trip I thought we might have “budget” ratings. This was perfect! We will be back!
