Loved the view, comfy bed, and very clean!

Great for couples getaway

Loved our stay here. Beautiful, bright apartment type room right on a breathtaking beach. The great cafe next door almost felt like part of the hotel. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Property is well maintained and we really enjoyed the ocean view!

If you're looking for fun and exciting this is not the area for that BUT if you're looking for peace and relaxation, there's no other place is rather be than Black Sands Inn. The quadruple room comes with a full-size kitchen so buy groceries before entering the area, we stopped in Willits( traveling from Bay Area), at a Safeway and got everything we needed for our stay. The property is excellent and would definitely return in the future.

It was a very nice inn and location, close to the ocean and a cafe, although it got cold and foggy sometimes. We wish they had a front desk person to immediately assist guests, especially with accessing the room upon arrival. Great place for people with pets. Our dog loved walking on the beach and we enjoyed watching the seals, birds and surfers.

When I reserved two nights in May of 2025 it was considerably less than when we stayed in August. In fact it was over 200 dollars more per night. Also we had to make several calls to be able to access our room. There is absolutely no one to assist with any issues you may have. Probably our last visit to shelter cove.

The drive from 101 to Shelter Cove is not for the faint of heart! The Black Sand inn was worth every bit of it! Right on the Ocean. The view is extremely beautiful. The sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks is hypnotic. Great living room and kitchen with everything you need. Bathroom and bedroom were excellent with great linens. If you want peace and relaxation this is the place! My first visit but not my last!

Shelter cover is a hidden amazing destination. The road getting there is full of switch backs. We got there late, wish there had been water in the rooms as there wasn’t a real front desk and everything in the town was closed. Amazing sleepy little town

I didn’t like not getting code until after the 4 pm check in and I didn’t get the WiFi password until 4 hours after check in

The beds were very comfortable. If you come during the week, please keep in mind that the only food option is a pizza takeout place with no indoor seating. There are no gas stations or convenience stores to grab something more healthy. This property does not have any staff on site. You have to receive an email with your room number and code. We didn’t get either, and there is almost no cell reception once you get to the property to call staff.

The view was amazing and the room was super open and relaxing.

We stopped here for one night during a long road trip. It was so lovely that we are now planning another trip to stay longer, just to relax and get away. The room was scrupulously clean and so well-appointed, including small details like dark towels for removing makeup and a selection of teas as well as coffee with a clean keurig machine. The bed was a wonderfully comfortable memory foam mattress with many pillows, including a body pillow. Unlike every other hotel/motel/inn we have stayed in over the last 10 days across Washington, Oregon and California, this Inn has provided multiple outlets including USB and USBc sockets by the bed which allowed us to charge our phones/kindles/smartwatches and still have an available outlet for the CPAP. We could hear the waves crashing on the beach from bed, and spent some time after waking trying to figure out how to restructure our trip to stay an extra night. We couldnt make that work, but we will definitely be back.

It was clean, easy to book, etc. The absence of regular staff for checking in, etc. was a little strange. All automated with mobile phone, SMS, coded door, locks, etc. It all worked well though. …And those views and the roar of the ocean… Oh my goodness!

Property was AMAZING! Only issue was with virtual check in as I had poor cell service and could not download the form. Once I was able to do that everything went smoothly 🙂

Private beach! Beautiful views

Our room was very nice and clean. Looked newly renovated. It was quiet, had beach access. Very nice coffee shop next door.
