As an Accor member, I was extremely disappointed with my initial experience at Mercure Hotel Townsville. I have stayed at many Accor properties across Australia and overseas, but unfortunately, this was one of the poorest experiences my family and I have had.
I made my reservation 21 days in advance for myself, my wife, and my daughter, specifically booking a room with one queen bed and one single bed based on the photos and description online. However, upon arrival, the room was very different from what was advertised. It was small, cramped, and not comfortable for a family of three.
One of the main issues was that our room was connected to another room via an internal door. The guests next door were extremely noisy, with children making loud sounds, devices playing for long periods, and constant conversations. The soundproofing was very poor, making it feel as though they were inside our room. As a result, we had difficulty sleeping.
The room amenities were also below expectations. There was only a small milk pouch in the fridge, no complimentary bottled water, no welcome snacks, no water jug, and very limited tea and coffee supplies. Only one teaspoon was provided, along with a few sachets of coffee and sweetener but no regular sugar or biscuits. We had to purchase drinking water ourselves.
The bathroom showed signs of mould in the shower, and basic items such as toothpaste were not provided. ni hand wash in batroom, plz see in photos there had body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and body wash only. The room safe was locked upon arrival and unusable unless reset by staff. Furniture was also inadequate, with only one chair for three people, no bedside table, and a small unstable table.
Overall, the room condition and presentation did not match the standard I expect from the Accor brand. As a loyal member, I felt disappointed and undervalued.
However, I would like to acknowledge that after raising these concerns, We drive whole day around 9 hours and we arrived at 6pm and after dinner we try to sleep but cant until 9:40 pm and then i go t reception for change my room, the hotel staff changed our room around 10 pm, when i told them. The new room matched the photos advertised online and was much more comfortable for our family. This significantly improved our stay.
Additionally, the breakfast was very good, with a wide variety of delicious options offered at a reasonable price. This was one of the highlights of our stay.
While the initial experience was frustrating, I appreciate the effort made by the staff to resolve the issue. I hope the hotel takes feedback seriously to improve consistency and better meet the expectations associated with the Accor brand. and i will send this post on head quarter of ACCOR group as well.
