Great hotel with lovely swimming pool, spa, fitness area. The restaurant is also stunning & definitely recommended.

A lovely hotel

The hotel itself is lovely and both dinner and the breakfast were great. The room was clean and there were great tea and coffee facilities. Unfortunately our remote didn’t work so I got the batteries changed and it still didn’t work so we gave up. The mattresses we had were concave and very soft so they weren’t comfortable to sleep on. We set our air con to 16 but didn’t cool the room, we got up in the night and put the fan on a higher speed but it didn’t help so we got up again turned it off and opened the window. Eventually the room cooled and we got to sleep but work up very tired. I think perhaps the rooms need a little refreshing and the mattresses updating, perhaps the air con looked at.

Lovely Hotel

The reception, restaurant and bar areas are beautiful and if the whole hotel was to this standard, it would absolutely be worth the overnight rate. However, the rooms are tired and in need of updating. They are beautifully clean, but the decor is out dated the carpets were tired and puckered, and the air conditioning is ineffective (we did not complain as it was the middle of the night before we realised and were only staying one night). We had several rooms booked as a Business Event and everyone said the same so it isn't me being picky. The staff were very friendly at Reception, and our experience at the bar was excellent. The food we ordered in the Press restaurant at lunch did take a very long time to arrive and it wasn't even busy, but the food itself was good. The breakfast buffet was a little chaotic as we went at a peak time, but the space allocated in the restaurant for the number of guests is a little cramped and again, the hotel was not near full capacity in our opinion. That said, the bar areas and outdoor areas are beautiful and I'm sure the rest of the hotel will follow suit when investment allows. Huge potential to be outstanding, but right now it's just good.

Die englische Provinz ist herrlich grün, Golfhotels bieten normalerweise etwas mehr Komfort und Platz. Deshalb habe ich für meine Frau extra eine Suite gebucht – was man uns zunächst gab, war allerdings eine Frechheit: ein dunkles Loch mit Blick auf eine Ziegelwand. Warum versucht man eigentlich immer wieder, Ausländern die schlechtesten Zimmer zuzuschieben? Nach längerer Diskussion bekamen wir immerhin eine helle und geräumige Suite, inklusive Entschuldigung. Schade nur, dass die Mängelliste weiterging: verstopfter Abfluss, halb defekte Steckdosen, kaputter Safe, zwei Fernseher, die gleichzeitig anspringen, aber einzeln ausgeschaltet werden müssen. Auch die Preisvorstellung für die Verlängerungsnacht war zunächst dreist – fast doppelt so teuer. Insgesamt schade: attraktive Umgebung, aber wenig Motivation, den Gästen wirklich einen angenehmen Aufenthalt zu bieten. Immerhin hat sich die Dame an der Rezeption ehrlich bemüht zu helfen.

Did not use spa

Toilet did not work upon arrival. A simple check prior to releasing the room would have avoided the problem. Beware of additional spa charges. I booked the room so my disabled partner could swim. However the charges were listed below where I had to select my chosen room type. By below, I mean below ALL the other room types. So despite sellinn you the spa dream, they drip feed additional charges. They also charge you 5 GBP per person for room service. Very disappointing for my wife and hard to see why I would recommend.

The room was lovely: spacious and clean with a big window. The beds were super comfy and cosy. We drank some delicious local sparkling wine and enjoyed a tasty dinner. Loved the swimming pool and facilities. The staff were charming and very helpful. Couldn't rate it more highly.
