Lovely birthday trip and excellent stay at this hotel. They upgraded me in a luxury room on my birthday day, they are always be so attentive and willing to help you. I would highly recommend this hotel. This is one of the best choice in UK.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. It’s in a beautiful location with stunning views. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were all friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. The only downside was that our room was very hot. Although two fans were provided, it was still difficult to sleep comfortably. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

This hotel does not have any air conditioning despite what it advertises. We deliberately booked this hotel for the AC given we were travelling during the heatwave with a baby who suffers from bad heat rash. On arrival we were given one fan. The window barely opened for safety reasons. When we complained we were told that they consider AC to mean fan. This is incredibly untrue, misleading and ruined what was otherwise a wonderful stay.

We love the quality and finish on the recent upgrade to the hotel - the room was very clean, well appointed and fabulous. Staff were very helpful and breakfast was superb. My only negatives are that there was no means of contacting reception from the room and there was no notepad/pen, which ironically I needed.

Our stay at the Royal Castle was OK, the fact we could not open a window in our room made sleeping difficult duringthe hot wearher,despite a fan which merely moved the warm air. Also the fact that Dartmouth town does not have any option to park a car for a couple of days without having to move parking spaces throughout the day, this has probably swayed us into not visiting Dartmouth again.

Great Location and helpful staff

We were a little anxious about the stairs to our room, but when we saw the view it was worth it! But be aware, it is an old building and quirky, some low ceilings in bathrooms. Breakfast was great. Location is the best with bus stop nearby. Beds very comfy and room recently renovated. Had a delightful maid who put smiles on our faces (young with red hair, sorry don't have name, give her a raise!)

Recently cosmetically modernised. Well-equipped rooms. Oddly the windows were all double glazed and sealed - so no possibility of ventilation which is an issue on a sunny day.

Beautiful hotel. Can’t fault anything. Bed was amazing, room decor was great. Mini fridge was great. Didn’t have any toothpaste we could borrow which is uncommon but boots next door so fine.

A grand old hotel in a wonderful location with just the right of formality to make it feel like somewhere special. Extremely professional staff at all levels.

The staff and service were excellent. My main problem was I kept hitting my head on the slopping ceiling when using the bathroom. Food was good but the Chicken Curry on the first night contained very little Chicken. However the Lamb and Pork dishes were excellent. I also enjoyed the Proper Job IPA reduced alcohol on draught. Overall a relaxing holiday for my wife and I. We will be back.

Great room, friendly and helpful staff and really good breakfast. The pub/bar on ground floor is excellent too. A great location on the waterfront in Dartmouth and amazing river views from restaurant and bar

Lovely place to stay in the heart of Dartmouth. We went for a Premium Double room overlooking the little harbour, a little bit more expensive, but worth it for the views out over the river, which we could enjoy if the weather wasn't great. As it was, we were lucky, and spent most of our stay out walking. There were a lot of steps up to the bedrooms, but it's an old building... Very helpful 'receptionist' who seemed to be there all the time... and knew how to sort out every problem... Great breakfast with a good choice of veggie and non veggie dishes. Staff were very helpful and friendly (when not discussing what they were going to do after work...). also could have done without the pop music one morning.. Parking was fine, and free... but after May 1st it becomes difficult with restrictions everywhere.... Only blemish? The evening meals seem to revolve around the standard St Austell Brewery menu, which I don't find very inspiring for a hotel of this standard? The Sunday roast featured roast potatoes that felt like they had been roasted days earlier...

Everything was fab, breakfast was excellent

The redesign of the building is lovely, and we were really looking forward to our stay but it did not quite go to plan. Our room was next to the air vent for the kitchen which was extremely noisy, as were the kitchen deliveries during the night. The restaurant served my pregnant wife a meal with an alcoholic relish despite us checking it with them beforehand several times. The manager denied this the next day until we showed him a photograph! We are trying to support local pubs and hotels but we would not stay here again.
