Excellent place to stay with the wonderful garden and hospitality. A walk from Boot & Shoe after dinner back to house in a total darkness is quite an experience.

Amazing setting for à B&B. Inside the castle walls in an old, full of character lodge building set in its own gardens. Hazel the hostess was incredibly friendly and helpful. À lovely breakfast too. Would definitely stay again 😊

Fantastic place to stay, staff were absolutely fantastic, room was clean tidy and the bathroom was immaculate. Only stayed the one night for the mighty hike but will definitely be staying again in the future Would definitely recommend staying here

An absolute gem! Our host, Hazel was wonderful and knowledgeable of the area. The gardens are amazing! Would make a point of returning there!

The care and hospitality began the moment I arrived. It was immediately obvious how much thought, attention and pride had gone into both the property and the guest experience, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout. I booked the standard double room, but there was nothing “standard” about it. The room was exceptionally spacious, beautifully decorated and felt both comfortable and luxurious. Towels and toiletries were plentiful, and everything was explained clearly on arrival, making the whole stay effortless from the outset. Breakfast was outstanding — generous, fresh and served with the same attentive care that seemed to run through every part of the stay. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and added even more charm to the experience. Arriving via the driveway of such a stunning castle made the location feel truly special, with plenty more nearby to explore and enjoy. One night was simply not long enough.

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful 4 poster bedroom, elegantly presented. Wonderful hosts . Hazel has got everything perfect, there is nothing that she hasn’t thought of .Tasty breakfast .Ian works hard keeping the gardens beautiful. A wonderful welcome also from Mouse ( beautiful grey and white handsome cat ).

Lovely house/room/setting. Stayed one night before an event the following day. Hazel looked after all my needs and I was welcomed by Ian upon arrival to him maintaining the amazing gardens. Would certainly stay here again.

Our four poster king room was fabulous- spotlessly clean with lovely touches such as a bowl of fruit and fresh milk. Breakfast was well cooked and hearty. Hazel was a thoughtful and genuinely friendly host. I would definitely recommend a stay at this lovely B&B.

My boyfriend and I were driving up to Scotland from Essex and needed a place closer to the borderlands. I looked up quaint places and found Penrith to be a good stopping point. Upon further research I found the Stafford house, and thank heavens I did. I’ve never felt so attended and cared after as I did during this stay. It truly feels like you’re taken back in time with all the amenities you need in current times. I would suggest this to every person on the planet. You will be well taken care of and have a warm (if you’re traveling in the fall/winter) and wonderful stay. They provide an extensive and varied breakfast that is absolutely incredible. A note if you’re using hotels.com: they do not communicate any information to the host. This is an issue on the 3rd parties end(like hotels.com and Expedia). I highly suggest reaching out to the property once the room is booked to provide your details so they can contact you directly, if needed.
