I was going to be late so I called 3 times to let the manager know. No answer and no option to leave a message. I then called the only other number on the website. The person told me as long as I arrived before midnight everything should be fine.I arrived after 10 pm. The office was closed but as I was dialing the office number the manager came to the door. I explained the situation to him. He said he had not received my 3 calls (although the record of them was on my phone). He said he had tried to call me 5 times. My phone had no missed calls recorded.
I explained that I had also called the other number and what I was told by them. He said we would still be able to check in but he was very agitated. He asked who I had spoken to, making me call the other number and then taking my phone and upbraiding the person who answered for telling me late check in would be ok. The manager gave me back the phone and told me I had to get to the bottom of it so he could know who exactly told me the wrong info so he could make them aware they couldn't do that. I asked if my companions could check in while I continued to deal with the situation as he was demanding. He kept saying I was blaming him. Then his wife came out and started yelling at me and one of my companions. They told us to leave. We went to the car to look for other hotels.Then the owner came out and gave us the key to our room, stating it wasn't his or ours fault.I've never been treated so rudely by another adult in my life.
