I have to be honest and say that when we stay in motels in Australia, like for most others, it is just to break the journey from a long drive. And since nothing is cheap in Aus, we usually (not always) look for the least expensive option.
So with that in mind and regarding the Silver Oaks Motel, we were already aware that the least expensive room was likely going to be facing the main road. When we first opened the door to enter, our first impression was that the room looked nice and comfortable. We were pleased. The beds were comfortable and all the amenities needed were there—nice thick towels, bathroom essentials, a bar fridge, kettle, biscuits, and coffee/tea, of which there was a generous supply. There was a big screen smart TV, a small dining table, and a single seat sofa. Location wise, nothing is far (well, food places) especially with a car. There was the odd truck rumbling by on the main road, and we can’t hide the fact that it was kinda loud—not deafening but quite noticeable. We didn’t let it bother us and honestly didn’t hear anything while sleeping. They did start early, but it was a good reason to get up and continue our journey.
The main complaint we have is the presence of baby cockroaches coming up the drainage system in the bathroom. Not sure if efforts have been made to mitigate their presence, but I dare say that the provision of a can of insecticide in the bathroom (kudos) suggests that it is a known issue. We used it. Perhaps regular treatment with insect bombs might help. We didn’t encounter this issue in another motel just up the road that we liked but was fully booked.
Overall, we were pretty happy with our no-fuss stay.
