The onsen here was exceptionally comfortable—the water is lukewarm, making it perfect for a long, relaxing soak. In fact, I almost fell asleep multiple times! They rotate the male and female baths daily, allowing guests the opportunity to experience both.
We stayed in an ensuite room, which was quite spacious for two. Since we visited in April, the corridors were still rather cold, so that is something to keep in mind. The meals were unexpectedly wonderful, and we highly recommend ordering some nihonshu (sake) to accompany dinner—we were genuinely surprised by how excellent it was. Throughout our stay, the service was fantastic, and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming.
A few practical details to note: there are no proper showers here—only buckets for traditional washing—and you should definitely be prepared to leave smelling like sulfur!
Because the property is older and dimly lit, my partner found the atmosphere a bit too rustic for his taste. However, I personally loved the historic charm of the entire place, especially the incredible onsen.
