Great location, it is only 2 mins away from Semuc Champey National Park Entrance and opposite to the cave. But be aware that there is no wifi, no hot water provided in the hostel. Electricity is limited from 12 noon to 1pm and 7pm to 11pm. The rest of time is lack of electricity. Food options are also limited. No restaurant is nearby. The redtaurant in the hostel is the only choice uou have in that area. The environment itself is excellent and surrounded by the jungle and river view underneath. If you like nature and wold life, it is a place for you!

All staff were very helpful. I’m not rating with 5 stars just because the check in took long time, as well because the bathroom in the room smelled terrible. They should ad a lid on top of the shower’s drainage to avoid the return of those fetid odors. We put toilet paper to avoid keep smelling that. Besides that all was very good in price, amenities, the views and the quality of food and drinks

Deben mejorar, no nos dieron toallas, uno de los baños tenia problemas, hay luz por horarios, las duchas deben ser reemplazadas, porque estan en nal estado. El Hostel esta muy bien ubicado y tiene varias amenidades.

This hostel is rustic and located right at the entrance to the state park. The staff was very friendly. You're only choice for food is the restaurant hotel.

If you want to have a local experience and get to know the local indigenous people, I highly recommend El Portal. It is owned and run by people from the local community. It is right next to the river, the caves and the pools of Semuc Champey. So from your room you can just walk down the river and have a swim, while chatting with locals. All the staff are very friendly and are happy to help you with anything. Make sure to not confuse their silly humor with anything negative ;) We absolutely loved our experience here, after having seen other hostels in the area. Few things to take into consideration: 1. The restaurant is very nice. The food is not of the highest quality, but it is delicious and gets you through the day. 2. You are INSIDE the jungle. Don't be afraid of crawling things, you are in their territory. They dont hurt you. 3. The rooms can get quite hot. And there are no fans as the electricity is very limited (only available in the evenings). All in all, the price/ quality is just perfect. And I would love to come back! Go experience the local community, not the hippie backpacker hostels.
