If you don’t know Japanese, I don’t recommend you to stay at this hotel. Staff speak no English. The dinner coupon given to us to have dinner at the restaurant next door was in Japaneses only and staff at the restaurant didn’t seem to know (we seemed don’t know too) what to do. We didn’t get to eat our dinner until 9 pm. The location is far from the train station and sightseeing spots. It is not easy to get a taxi either if you don’t have an app for local taxi. We had to walk. The facility a kind of old and the carpet was very dirty.

Stay charge on first night was supposed half board . Unlike previous stays , we were told to have dinner at wine bar with a discount coupon of yen 5,000 each instead of the restaurant. Staff agreed to charge each of us (4 altogether) an additional Yen 3,000 to change to restaurant dining . It turned out that the final bill charged us an additional yen 4,000 each plus the original price of the set dinner at Yen 7,800!!! Each of us ( 4 guests) were overcharged by Yen 8,800 as compared to what the staff agreed with us !!!!!!!!!! We were overcharged by at least yen 35,200!!! Excluding tax

Our room was tiny and the carpet was filthy. Amenities were very limited and staff were few and very inexperienced. We were overcharged at check out and had to point out the error. Then they still charged us the wrong amount. One of the worse, if not the worse hotel we have ever stayed at, and we paid over $400 a night, no meal. We stayed at a 4 star hotel near Ginza and it was a little over $300 and included breakfast. We feel totally ripped off. Not what the ratings reflect at all.

Pleasant and great stay

After staying here multiple times, I can say it is always friendly, clean and well maintained. Still, westerns have to realize this hotel caters to mostly Japanese clients, and the beds reflect this, being lower and firm.

The hotel is close to the Karuizawa outlet and station. The breakfast offers interesting options but taste is okay only.

We enjoyed our stay here. The breakfast was amazing and the service was excellent.

What a delightful place! It was very clean, very rustic, and very reasonable for the amount paid! The breakfast itself is worth staying more for, with the freshest vegetables and the most delicious breads and drinks. The room was spacious and it felt nice and secluded despite being so near everything else. Taxi service is available by calling the front and it’s a pleasant walk to and from the shopping areas.

A unique European vibe in the main public areas while the room we stayed in was more of a modern sensability while carrying through the subdued aesthetic. Very attractive and comfortable.

The room allocated was different from the pictures on Hotels.com. When I enquired about this with the staff, I was told that there are multiple types of room under the same category and I should have indicated my preference while booking. This was not made known to me at anytime during the booking process at Hotels.com. I like Longing House and this was my third visit to the same hotel, but I wanted a specific room which I booked as per the pics shown while booking. I was disappointed to see the room allocated to me.

Amazing place, amazing staff, amazing everything. Only downside was neighbors upstairs were treating their room like a bouncy castle, and since the walls are pretty thin, we’ll yeah. But again, everything else was perfect.

While the property could benefit from modern-day amenities and customer service, we had a nice little stay at this property. Good access to Karuizawa by car. The good - atmosphere, access, private baths, parking, comfortable beds The bad - no early check-in (not even by 5 min), bugs in the stairwells should be cleared by maintenance, the breakfast in the restaurant needs an upgrade, signage missing for private baths A & B.

Tudor style property. Nice and clean but beds need to be changed and generally hotel needs a sprucing up

Excellent stay in Karuizawa! The hotel provided nice service, clean room and delicious breakfast. We satisfied a lot and will choose Longinghouse definitely when I visit Karuizawa again!
