We loved our stay at the Cliffden. It’s perfectly located for train travellers and it’s a short walk through the beautiful and extensive grounds to the sea front and the town centre. The friendly staff were exceptionally helpful and the freshly renovated swimming pool was the jewel in their crown.

Rent og pent, men slitt. Frokosten var veldig enkel. Beliggenheten var nydelig oppe på en høyde. Hagen var ikke vedlikeholdt, men stor og fin. Fin atmosfære på verandaen, med gjester som var godt voksne.

A nice hotel set in 7 acres of garden with access directly onto the sea front. All staff were very friendly and helpful although at busy times at breakfast time they could do with more people to help out. The pool was a great asset in the hot weather and fans in the bedroom helped with the heat and was a nice touch. The only minor complaint I might have is the traffic noise from the busy road just behind the hotel. I had a bedroom facing this road ( the back of the hotel) and the traffic started early in the morning and carried onto late into the evening. It was quite loud as I had the windows open due to the heat.

The only downside to this hotel is the fact that it at the top of a hill from Teignmouth. A big climb if you are travelling by train. Other than that he hotel itself was well maintained. The rooms comfy. Widescreen Tv and free wi fi. The cooked breakfasts were good and if there was anything they didn't have, you could always ask for it. Overall, a very good short holiday. Would i go again - definitely, but oh that hill.

A very pleasant 5 nights spent in this lovely hotel in excellent surroundings. The large garden has a gate with keypad for guests to use to access the town / beach area which makes a much more pleasant 15 minute walk to town than by road. OK it's uphill on the way back but in such lovely surroundings who cares! There are bus stops outside the entrance with direct buses to Exeter via Dawlish, and Newton Abbot via Torquay (no. 2 and 11 respectively, noting that the 11 doesn't pass the hotel on the way back from Torquay). The station is about 10 minutes walk away but we used a taxi, noting that there didn't appear to be a rank at the station but a short walk way near Wetherspoons. No Uber! There's a bar and terrace, also a restaurant we didn't use, apart from the included buffet breakfast. The latter was adequate with all the usual fare and you could ask for vegan sausages and poached or fried eggs to order. We didn't use the pool which is quite shallow and I did spot a room with a pool table. It is a dog friendly hotel which may deter some but not us. Because of the design some of the corridors do have slight slopes which can catch you unawares. If using the seating in the garden be aware they are not always clean due to the plentiful bird life! Staff were very friendly and courteous throughout. Rooms are cleaned "as required" if you put the hangar on the door. Check in is fairly late by hotel standards (16:00) but you can leave bags with reception. Thoroughly recommended!

The hotel was in a great location. We were a group of 7 Gentlemen Golfers and we stayed in the Hotel for 4 nights. The staff were brilliant, the breakfast was hearty and filling. We enjoyed "chilling" in the indoor swimming pool. Although we did not have a dog with us, it may be helpful to know that the hotel is dog friendly. The gardens of the hotel were exceptional, and you walked through them for easy access to the beach and Town. I would recommend a stay at the Cliffden hotel.

We don't normally send 'bad' reviews but contact the hotel directly if we have an issue so this is unusual for us. We booked 2 nights at the Cliffden Hotel but the room we were given was very small, which normally wouldn't be a problem, but was unbearably hot and we could barely open the window on the hottest day of the year. We knew immediately we couldn't stay there but we're told they were full so couldn't offer us an alternative room. We spoke to one of their management team and left after 10 minutes

Room tidy if a bit dated, lots of floorboard noise within room and especially above. Very good staff. Great breakfast with excellent choices, the hotel grounds are superb , very well kept and great to stroll and sit in. Very good swimming pool and facilities.

The website states that certain dishes on the menu are available 24/7, they’re not. I was refused any type of evening meal at 7pm as the kitchen was too busy with a coach party to provide me with a dish of pasta to take to my room. This is not good customer service and that information regarding the menu should be removed, it is very misleading. On the plus side the gardens, pool and location are excellent.

On a plus side the grounds and swimming pool were excellent as was the helpfulness of the staff. The breakfast was good but the coffee out of the machine was not very hot. The room looked tired and in need of an update. I know it's an older building but maintenance is needed on the window . It would not shut properly and with strong winds the night we stayed we tried filling the gap with a towel but even doing this with the blind pulled down the blind was blowing backwards and forwards . The noise this caused along with the creaking of the floor in the corridor outside our room we had a disturbed sleep

Went for a swim straight away, then down for chinese takeaway, and they gave me a plate and cutlery, plus fresh milk for tea. Great place to stay.

The rating of 2 stars for staff is only referring to the the 2 staff working in the breakfast hall. They were unhelpful, miserable, and made you just feel like an inconvenience. Customer was poor and there was no friendliness or effort to make the experience enjoyable. All other staff we met, from reception to the bar were fantastic.

Hotel is very good and the outside view, only i am not satisfied is the breakfast. Staffs are very good

Fabulous Hotel. Set in beautiful gardens with gates access to the beach. The hotel pool is lovely. Good choice at breakfast.
