3 night stay over Easter. Pub was clean and comfortable although bed mattress was very firm which meant disturbed sleep for stay. Owners very welcoming. Breakfast was 8-9am which I felt was a little early as we usually like to have a lazy wake up without having to have alarm on so wasnt as relaxing as we would have liked. Breakfast was good but simple so would not have wanted to stay any longer. 1 or 2 nights at the most. No fruit or alternatives and not asked if we preferred eggs cooked differently. Room info said to ask for more tea bags etc but not toiletries so felt that was a little odd for a 3 night stay. Fortunately we had some of our own so what was there was enough for one of us. Lighting in room though was poor as one ceiling light which was dim and a tiny bedside lamp which was no good for reading. Good base for walks in the Dales so overall recommended for exploring. Was pleasantly surprised of the local village of Hartington.

A friendly welcome awaited us as we stayed in a clean and well maintained environment. Breakfast and dinner were excellent.

Great place, very clean, friendly staff and nice breakfast

The room was clean but certainly wasn’t ‘luxury’. Beds not very comfortable and we didn’t sleep well because of the air con unit outside our room. The toilet was so close to the wash basin - a larger person would have found it difficult to use the toilet. We would not stay here again.

There was little or no noise from the pub. The only noise near my room was other guests arriving and departing. Parking was no problem. Staff were very pleasant and, due to them, I was able to get my head down in good time as I had been up all the previous night. This was followed by a very sound night's sleep. Breakfast was perfectly adequate for me (cereal and toast). The evening meal I had booked was again perfectly satisfactory. For my one night's stay, the experience was fine.

Warm welcome with lovely staff who never seemed to sleep(!) but always served with a smile. The menu had a good selection of dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed the homemade food which was tasty and generous in portion size. The spiced plum crumble was amazing and we were told they were homegrown plums! The room was lovely and exactly what we wanted. Everything was clean and neat. We loved our stay and would happily return. Highly recommended.

Beds comfy room clean pub outdated

very good value for money, breakfast was very nice, rooms was ok, but pub itself is a little run down and could do with a refresh and some nee furniture Landlady was very friendly.

A lovely get away from it all pub with a great breakfast every morning and a good menu for the evening. A short drive from the village of Hartington.

Excellent breakfast cooked to order - great tea and coffee Bedroom was nicely laid out, well appointed; mattress a bit too soft - rather heavy duvet for summer - nice coffee set up in room.

Overall we had a lovely stay. Rooms are clean although a little dated. Curtains could do with blackout lining as outside security light on all night. No smart tv in the room. Food was great and hospitality top notch!
