This could be an incredible hotel, the building itself is iconic, with incredible views and has been finished to a high level n a boutique style. If stayed before with my daughter and rebooked with my wife because I wanted her to experience the place but it was just so disappointing. Firstly the restaurant/bar were closed on a Monday/Tuesday so wasn’t open the days we were staying, I understand they might have this listed somewhere but I didn’t realise until being sent the details the day before and, although I can appreciate not doing a food service with no customers I don’t know why they wouldn’t open the bar for residents, we would have loved to have had a drink in the evening and experience the views. Secondly the service is a just pretty lacklustre. Stuff like breakfast not kept stocked up; pretty early in service and eggs left from the beginning of service etc. mistakes on checkout about paying for breakfast (we had B&B) and other charges. I asked for an extension cord for a medical device, as I was leaving the building, and was handed it rather than one of the 3 staff offering to take it to the room etc. The staff were fine, generally professional and polite; so maybe I’m being unfair, but it was just a series of small poor efforts with no smile or willingness to go above and beyond. I’d describe it as budget hotel service in a high end boutique setting and we just found it disappointing. Could be so much better with some higher standards and care.

I stayed at Hotel La Prison in Béziers for four nights, from Wednesday to Sunday. The location is a real highlight. The hotel is set in a beautifully renovated former prison right on the main square, facing the cathedral. It’s unique and visually impressive. However, getting there is not easy due to very limited public transport, especially with luggage. At check-in, there was confusion about my booking. The receptionist questioned whether breakfast was included and mentioned they often have issues with Expedia. Only after I showed my reservation did she confirm it. Breakfast was excellent—rich, well-organized, and available from 7:00, which I really appreciated. The pool area, however, was poorly managed. There were only around 7–10 sun loungers for many guests, making it nearly impossible to find a spot. I wasn’t able to properly use the area at all. My room also lacked privacy. The window faced directly onto the pool, with people sitting just a meter away, making it uncomfortable to open the window. At check-out, there was more confusion. Expedia stated 12:00, but I was called at 11:30 and told it was 11:00. Again, the issue was blamed on Expedia. I had to rush, and the situation didn’t feel professionally handled. The breakfast charge confusion also came up again. Overall, the stay had strong points, especially the location and breakfast, but the recurring issues with organization and communication made it less enjoyable than expected.

We spent a night at The Prison. It was quite the experience. An actual prison transformed into a high end hotel. While we loved everything about the Hotel itself, we weren't crazy about our room. Actually the bathroom was the low point. It's open concept, meaning the shower is a hand held 3 or 4 ft off the ground. So you have to hold shower wand, get wet, turn off water, soap up, turn on water, rinse off, turn off shower, or everything gets wet. It is for that reason there are no spaces to put anything. No hooks, no counter tops. Nothing. Extremely minimal. I want shelves and counter tops and hooks and places to plant my stuff. The bedroom fan did not work, we had to stand on the very comfy bed to give it a push to get it going. Also very austere. I get it, its a prison. Its edgy and all in all a spectacular place to stay for one or 2 nights, but if you want to unpack and settle in, not happening. There is a pool but very few of the rooms are air conditioned. The petit dejeuner was good but minimal, the restaurant closed during our stay. There are prison cells turned into bedrooms, cool places to walk and many a reminder this was an actual prison. All really cool. We loved the artwork.

Hôtel original et confortable. Par contre la piscine ouverte à 8h le matin c’est trop tôt quand il y a un groupe qui vient plonger et parler fort le matin et que vos fenêtres donnent sur la piscine.

Le choix pour cet hôtel était ...la curiosité, cela a été la déception! Chambre spacieuse mais sans climatisation, il parait que c'est la seule ! impossible d'en changer car l'hôtel était plein. un ventilateur sur pied nous à été fourni ... inefficace ! Ventilateur de plafond inefficace également. Fauteuils du salon tachés Malgré l'intervention du personnel : la télé sur des chaines traditionnelles ne fonctionne pas. Oubliez la chambre 214 ... on a l'impression de coucher dans une cave ... Dommage l'environnement au coeur de la vieille ville et la cathédrale est fabuleux.

Hotel is great but the air temperature in the cell is HORRENDOUS with the pathetic ceiling fan. Even prisoners shouldn't have to face those conditions during normal summer weather

Fantastic hotel with amazing views! It’s located in an amazing spot walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants and all the sights of beziers, the staff were great, the pool and bar/restaurant were very good and the hotel is very quirky! We stayed in the cellure room which again is quirky and clean but could use shampoo/condtioner in the shower instead of one soap for all! The cellure only has ceiling fan and if it’s hot a separate fan is needed which reception can provide. Definitely worth booking highly recommended

Como hotel não atende bem no verão, pois os ambientes não são refrigerados. Faz muito calor nas áreas comuns, e o quarto Cellule que reservei é muito desconfortável, pois não tem ar condicionado nem frigobar, e as cortinas deixam entrar luz. Não recomendo como hotel!

Vraiment, cet hôtel original et très bien placé n’est pas adapté à la canicule : à part dans le hall d’entrée, la chaleur y est étouffante et dans les cellules, c’est pire ! Si on ouvre la fenêtre (ce qui est sportif à cause des rideaux), la lumière vous réveille en passant sous les rideaux en tête de lit. Et le ventilateur au plafond n’en peut mais… Les équipements des cellules sont spartiates : un seul tabouret en guise de tables de nuit et pas de TV… qui aurait pu nous endormir ! A éviter donc en cas de canicule ! Dommage, car sinon, très sympa !

Endroit insolite formidable...très jolie" cellule" avec literie confortable et d'une propreté irréprochable..ns avons aussi profité de la piscine avc vue imprenable..c'était tout simplement magnifique et inoubliable. Personnel agréable et à l'écoute.

Un vrai et beau concept avec toute l'originalité que l'on attendait. Un petit bemol sur la chaleur, il n'y a quasi aucunes chambres sans climatisation donc il fait 35°c dedans même avec un ventilateur au plafond. Heureusement qu'ils ont pu nous en preter un mais on a quand même souffert.

Beau bâtiment, très belle transformation. Notre chambre "cosy" était très agréable et bien aménagée . Le bar est agréable, dommages qu'il faille commander et payer au bar avant de consommer.
