Lovely place. Only saw staff member at breakfast - no reception. Superb building. Either my TV didn't work or I couldn't work it. Could do with better signage outside - no hotel name visible

Restaurant og bar var lukket og under ombygning uden at vi havde fået det at vide ved bookning!! Badeværelses døren faldt af midt om natten da skruerne i hængslet ikke kunne holde! Fint og rent men det er ikke i orden at tage fuld pris for et 4 stjernet hotel når restauranten og baren er under ombygning!!

Absolutely delightful hotel. Me and a friend booked a room each for the Hay Festival, and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. The staff were wonderful; helpful, friendly, even showed us to our rooms. The location was great, not too far away but far enough that I’d was quiet and tranquil. The breakfast is well worth the money, as is the Old Barn pub across the road, where we ate that night. A fantastic stay, I can’t wait to return with my husband next time.

Rooms have very recently been renovated. Everything modern and very comfortable. On the main floor are two levely communal areas for relaxing or reading. This place has a history as a coaching hotel - elements of that history are beautifully used in the current interior design.

Heating did not work in room. Strange Techy control button which could not be 'Mounted' and did not work. Nobody around to help after early evening. Breakfast very nice indeed. Staff were very apologetic next morning and gave us a free breakfast to compensate.

Lovely. Nice little touches - decent coffee in the room, great shower and very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast too.

Couldn’t fault any thing, allowed to check in early and the room was great. Breakfast was superb and would definitely stay there again highly recommended

Fabulous room and excellent breakfast. We can’t recommend this hotel enough. It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Such a quirky old building has been updated to a very high standard whilst still retaining the charm of the original beams and uneven floors. The lit stove in the reception gave a warm welcome each time we entered. The staff were really lovely, friendly and helpful. A very relaxed stay, I hope we will be able to visit again.

Comfy bed, nice staff, fire, jolly nice breakfast. Bedroom a little cold, but hot waterbottles helped.

The Three Cocks Hotel is a truly special place — an independent, family-run gem where you can feel the passion and care in everything they do. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from the stunning interiors to the welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The downstairs area is beautifully designed — perfect for unwinding by the fire with a drink after a day exploring. The receptionist was excellent: warm, professional, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was outstanding, with quality ingredients and generous portions. The location couldn’t be better — close to both Brecon and Hay-on-Wye, making it ideal for exploring the area. Our room was immaculate, with a very comfortable bed and a lovely, well-designed bathroom. It’s clear that every aspect of this hotel has been created with care and attention to detail. A wonderful stay from start to finish — I can’t recommend The Three Cocks Hotel highly enough.

Quaint rooms, Friendly staff, lovely breakfast.

Good points…Loved the staff and had excellent communication throughout the stay. The well fitted bathroom was spotless and the shower was great. You have to pre-order breakfast the night before but it is hot and well cooked. The lady serving breakfast was excellent. Nice areas to sit downstairs and chat. The age of the building means it is quirky and interesting. It has been renovated very sympathetically. Bad points…The bedroom was very small and the two single beds were placed end to end so felt like a school trip. No wardrobe in the room just some pegs over a shelf and I struggled to use the mirror which was propped up on the desk. No room at all to put our cases. There are no staff in the hotel if you arrive after they leave in the early evening so you have to self check-in. Instructions to locate your key and room are comprehensive but could put people off.

Problem with toilet flush, maybe not a major concern for most people but a bit of a problem for me following cancer surgery. However they gave us free breakfast to make amends so guess these things happen

A very nice place to stay would highly recommend and plan to return on our next trip to wales.

The property is so beautifully decorated, has a great atmosphere and outstanding staff. We felt recharged after our stay there and highly recommend The Three Cocks

Beautifully and thoughtfully restored with a wonderful made-to-order breakfast that goes beyond the usual.

It is a lovely place, quite quirky but that work is in is favour. We had to self check in because the reception was closed but that wasn’t an issue as there were clear instructions including what we wanted for breakfast. The restaurant was closed for refurbishment I think but the Old Barn is just across the road and serving good food for a reasonable price so no issues. Breakfast was nice too. Overall I would recommend. I would imagine it will be fantastic in the summer when the bat and restaurant is open and you can sit in the garden.

Really lovely old building nicely decorated, would have liked to have a gin and tonic by the fire in the evening but there was no bar when we stayed, can't wait to come back!
