Stayed here for two nights. Friendly staff on arrival - dispensing ice lollies on a very hot afternoon. Room ok but very hot - only two of the windows opened and even then not very far. Fan simply stirred hot air around. Plenty of water provided and tea-making replenished on request. Decent biscuits too. Big disadvantage is that the restaurant for breakfast and evening meals is in separate building 100 yards away up a hill. Need umbrella if it is raining. Had one dinner in there - food ok but service disorganised and slow. Breakfast disappointing - continental selection ok but hot food left under heat lamps far too long. Rubber fried eggs and inedible scrambled eggs. Nice walk down to Rutland Water - lots of birdlife to see.

Overall, we had a great stay. The hotel and its location were excellent, and the grounds were beautifully maintained and kept to a very high standard. The only disappointing aspect was the hotel restaurant. The food was average and didn't quite meet our expectations. If we were to return, we would probably choose to dine at restaurants nearby instead.

Great location but property needs rebuilding.

Overall the property and grounds are lovely, although I was there for a wedding so didn't have much time to explore and enjoy them properly. I also didn't use the spa so can't comment on that. The weekend was hot (but not heatwave) and the rooms were incredibly hot. There is no AC in the bedrooms and only 1 fan provided per room (not particularly powerful) which was a big downside, especially given the cost of rooms. The room was nice, mine had a balcony that could have been in better condition to be enjoyed (the furniture had cobwebs). Especially as it was too hot to stay inside the room. The staff were nice and tried to be accommodating where possible. On the plus side, the breakfast was a highlight - it was excellent for a buffet style breakfast. Lots of tasty options and great hot food selection.

This is a superb hotel but I think your experience depends very much on the room you choose. The grounds are vast and various accommodation built on a hill, with reception in the beautiful main hotel whilst the restaurant and pool are higher up. Buggies are available to take guests around and the views can be spectacular. I originally booked a cosy double without thinking about the importance of the view. Although thoughtfully placed on the ground floor to aid my mobility, the room overlooked a wall and felt dark and depressing for me as a solo traveller. Couples or families may feel differently. Reception staff appreciated my dilemma, were excellent and helped me move to a beautiful room with a balcony on the same level as the restaurant and pool. It completely changed my stay. I did pay more, but for this hotel I would absolutely recommend paying extra for the balcony and view. The lodges also looked lovely. The restaurant had a modern atmosphere with background music and very attentive staff. Breakfast was buffet style whilst dinner was waiter service, yet I still felt completely comfortable dining alone. The pool was lovely, the massage was fabulous and everywhere was clean and well maintained. I would definitely stay again, but next time I would be much wiser about my room choice.

We stayed in Rutland hall whilst visiting for a Wedding in the local area it was also our 34th Wedding Anniversary. On arrival the reception staff were friendly and helpful. We were allocated our room which was on first floor with lake view the lift are broken but think that is an ongoing problem. Our room was pleasant with a good size bed fridge broken. We had a wander round the grounds and lake which was pretty.. We ate on site in blossom restaurant fairly standard food think a little over priced but had a nice meal. We returned to our room at 2230 soon after we could hear a dog barking and crying in an adjacent room to which would stop briefly and the continue we obviously could not sleep and at approximately midnight I located the room next door banged on the door the dog had clearly been left on its own I rang reception who advised me they would come and see but that they and that they advised people not to leave dogs in their room alone that they might be at a wedding. Reception rang later disturbing my husband who was dosing in between the dog howling and crying to tell, us what we already knew that the dog was crying and barking and they would talk to the wedding venue. The dog did not stop till 2am when the owners then returned and had a gathering outside our room. Needless to say we will not be returning to this venue it might be dog friendly(not for this dog) certainly not people friendly. Second night was better and breakfast was good.

Room was dusty and very small little disappointing with the price paid

We had a king sized room on the second floor. Comfortable bed. Amazing views of the lake plus it was lovely to have a balcony with outside seating. It was easy to control the heating. Good self service breakfast.

Beautiful location in gorgeous grounds with fabulous views of Rutland Water. We had a junior "suite" (actually one room, not separate bedroom and living area) with balcony. It was clean, comfortable and spacious although could do with more lighting (the room was dark despite glorious sunny May weather). The lift wasn't working throughout our stay which didn't bother us but would be problematic for anyone with disabilities or mobility problems. We hated the way you have to step into a pitch black lobby to access the bedroom and the light on a sensor doesn't come on until you are half way across the lobby (take a torch). Same when leaving your bedroom to exit the hotel. Breakfast was very average, we felt, all self-service and feels mass produced, coffee machines producing indifferent "coffee" but no decaf option. We would stay again for the location, but for the price (around £350 per night) we felt there could be improvements

Beautiful room with a balcony and reservoir view. Lovely to be able to sit outside with a cup of tea after a busy day at Rutland. Staff extremely helpful and welcoming. Breakfast choice excellent and good to have healthy options and oats milk but a pity the majority of hotels now have self serve tea/coffee via machines although appreciate it does save costs.

The “hotel” is really a series of separate buildings spread out across a large site. There is no central location to meet for drinks/ coffee. The only restaurant is at the top of a hill (accessed by steep stairways/roads ). There appeared to be some golf buggies but it was not clear how these could be accessed. The restaurant was large and cafeteria-like, lacking in atmosphere. There was a restricted menu; no room service available (you have to collect your meal) and I was told at 4.15 that they stopped serving afternoon tea at 4pm ( which is exactly when most people would want it). The room was clean and well decorated but it was very dimly lit and had minimal toiletries ( no shower cap/tissues). At just over £200 a night for a standard double room it was not great value.

A lovely stay, will stay again.

A really lovely hotel. All the staff were exceptionally helpful, polite and always pleasant with a smile. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and all the food was outstanding. We would highly recommend a stay here.

The hotel was lovely but - regrettably - it was hosting a large wedding and reception on the first of our two nights' stay. They hadn't warned us, yet we were given a room adjacent to the thoroughfare from the reception venue. As a consequence, we had little sleep on our first night at all. The guests in the adjacent room had a spat at a little after midnight over who one of them had been dancing with (and how)! When that ended, we were woken again at about 1:45 am by a group arguing outside who had stopped en route to their rooms; I got up to chase them.off. we them struggled to sleep afterwards . I explained the situation to the manager and staff who offered a potential discount to be discussed when next we booked. We won't be rebooking.

Plates were cold so things like egg were luke warm by the time you started to eat. Otherwise a good range of food. Staff very good. Rooms good. Great sleep.
