Highly recommended, especially the cottages with kitchens

I will definitely book again next time I am in the area, the apartment was super clean and tidy, absolutely perfect for what I needed. Excellent communication from my host.

The property is small but clean and modern. It's located behind a pub which makes the location good. We stayed in the same cottage last November and everything was good, however, this time was has not good. On the first evening we found the cottage very cold. We tried altering the thermostat but no good. We had to wrap towels around us to keep warm. I sent an email to the owner but had no reply. Tried ringing him twice but it rang out. Left messages on his phone but no response. Decided to send email to the "Durham City Cottages" who did reply. They said that guests had requested the heating to be turned off during the previous weekend (why not simply turn the valves off on the radiators?). I requested them to turn the heating back on, no response. We continued to wrap ourselves with a throw from the bed whilst watching TV. Added to that I had to eat my cornflakes with a teaspoon as there was no desert spoons, the oven doesn't work (had to use microwave), the salt seller was empty, the shower tray spilt over because water was slow to drain away. I never normally issue bad reviews but felt it necessary this time mainly because there was no effort to rectify our concerns they simply decided to ignore us. What happened to caring for your customers?

Parking is convenient, just in front of your booking property

Parking was easy and convenient. It felt secure and well suited. The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed.

Parking excellent,room adequate,host very welcoming.Toilet seat didn’t fit toilet & kept sliding around.Very awkward & uncomfortable.

Stayed for 3 nights over New Year...was absolute bliss. Late booking and the communication was brilliant to get it sorted. Cottage was immaculate throughout with everything we needed. Perfect location for walks, and yet only 5 minutes from shops and Durham centre Will be returning again for sure...thank you.

Gorgeous stay at the cottage with my partner,it was incredibly clean,the amenities were superb,will definitely be booking and staying again in the near future for a little escape.

It was ideal. Had gone to the university to check on my son. Stayed for one night.

A lovely stay. Quiet, clean, comfy bed, lovely shower, coffee machine and parking outside your door! Great value too!

Beautiful cottages set in a rural peaceful area. I have stayed there a couple of times now and will stay again. Great communication

The cottage was perfect. Everything that you would need for a stay. Immaculately clean, decor was lovely. Location was very picturesque and quiet. Will be booking for a longer stay next time

Stayed here before these were apartments, no idea how the owners have done it tbh,now has a little settee and separate bedroom which is en-suite, also a small but well stocked kitchen even has a little dishwasher if your staying longer than 1 night

Great little stop close to Durham and reasonable price vs the city centre

Clean and tidy had a problem with heating not working on Wednesday evening I messaged John and a gas engineer was out on Thursday to sort out the heating, would stay here again next time we’re in Durham. Food was lovely at the Bay Horse too

Awesome little out of the way cottages, we had a simple over night stay for a birthday and the cottage was perfect. Extremely clean, looked to have just been refurbished with everything needed for a short stay. Lovely few drinks at the Bay horse infront of an open fire, with well priced excellent food. Easy to find, and parked right outside the property, easy no hassle check in / out If I had any gripe which isn’t really a gripe is that they are obviously putting work into upgrading the properties which ours had been and not was lovely, however the parking area was littered with rubbish and off cuts of wood, tiles, sand, cement etc , greggs cups sandwich bags etc and car was totally covered in building dust the next morning when we left. Altogether a fantastic little quiet break at a very very reasonable price
