Excellent service, by a great team everyone is really welcoming. The hotel is a period property, and is due a bit of a refresh. The location of the hotel is excellent for river trips, exploring Fore st and buses to the local area. Very pet friendly!

The rooms are very basic and clearly no money has been spent on them for a considerable time. The small window is painted closed (we were told for safety reasons but clearly that wasn’t true as our neighbours’ window opened). The air conditioning was broken throughout the property and had been for weeks so the room temperature throughout our stay was in the 30s (90s Fahrenheit).
No apology was made and the rude check out woman couldn’t care less.
The included breakfast was ok if you like stodge but not if you would like something better than a quarter slice of limp watermelon.

Really nice hotel with great staff, and lovely central location. Helpful staff, I needed an ironing board, bumped into a staff member in the stairs and asked for one. When I returned to the room it was there. Parking ok, not many spaces and a bit restrictive. Only comment is the building and decor are a bit tired, but if this won't affect you, it's great.

Hotel was old and quirky and would rate 8 and a half out of 10. We only stayed a short while, so did not take advantage of amenities, but breakfast was good. I am comparing it to its sister hotel in Dartmouth which has recently been renovated, so ranked it a bit lower. As for the price, it was a great value.

Location, helpful staff, clean an & comfortable rooms and dining facilities, good food.
Bad points :-
Car park far too small - can be a real problem finding a space and parking.
No lift to upper floors and therefore access challenging for some senior citizens and a no-go for the disabled.

We enjoyed our stay in Totnes - a lovely and interesting small town with plenty to do. The hotel is an older building and in many places could do with a little investment in the rooms. Staff were friendly and breakfast was excellent.

The room was clean and had all the required equipment. The air con was very poor. Only went down to 19 and would then go back up to 23 by itself. We didn’t use it.
We had a desk fan but they just blows hot air around.
The hotel is in desert need of an upgrade, it’s tired and worn out.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
It’s a very convenient place to stay to visit Totnes but the car park only holds 5 cars. When we returned in the evening all the spaces were taken and I was told some might be staff. We parked in the high street which is ok between 6pm and 9am otherwise the paying car parks are a good distance away.

There are 20 rooms here but the car park has about 7 parking spaces.
Be prepared if you have a long drive like I did - because there were no spaces when I got there, I bought myself an extra couple of hours (and a bathroom break) by shopping at the local Morrisons.
I was told by the staff of free parking on the weekend but everywhere I went to where they told me to was not free. Eventually I had to park at the railways station which brought me 24 hours parking.
The room was -very- humid. I had to open a the window as much as I reasonably could (it has a sign warning that if it’s left open too much the pigeons might get in). TV had basic freeview channels so if you like Ant and Dec, or Law and Order SVU, you’re probably going to be quite entertained.
Facilities otherwise ok, towels clean, bathroom clean. Not as many plug sockets as I’d like, I remember there being one, and I had to stretch it from the
I had to wait the next day for a parking space to be available in the hotel car park so I got to watch it intermittently until someone left and I could park long term.
As for staff helpfulness - I decided to leave early on my last day (the breakfast is ok, not worth staying for if you want to leave earlier for whatever reason), and going downstairs at 0500 there was nobody on reception and no apparent means to contact them. I later went down at 0600 and was nicely checked out by the security guard.

Beware, there is no elevator. Parking is nonexistent, and I had to park on the street, but at least it was free after 6 pm and since it was Saturday/sunday, it was free. There was a problem with the boiler, and there was no hot water, but we worked around that.The hotel itself was built in the 1600 s and so was quaint and beautiful. Food was great, service was great, and the coffee perfect.

A most amazing stay very last minute! I booked on the evening of my stay short notice, upon arrival I checked in & was shown to my room … a gracious little room aptly named ‘ The shoe box’ so cute everything I needed as a solo traveler. Perfectly snug. Wonderful staff & w location. Would definitely recommend this hotel!
