The Swan Hotel

The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was small but functional. There is no parking at the hotel or near area which is very problematic. The breakfast was extra but a reasonable cost at £25 for two people. The egg was over cooked and the bacon was unusual.

Very good for its age. Good decor, helpful staff, dinner was typical pub food but very enjoyable. The only negative is the lack of parking especially in an area with double yellow lines everywhere. Lovely river view.

We had a lovely room at the top which was very warm and cosy. Staff were friendly and very polite. Unfortunately for us the hotel was understaffed as the two girls working seemed to be run off their feet, having to run the bar and the restaurant, which they managed very well and I applaud them. My booking confirmation said we get a free breakfast but on check in we’re told it was room only but breakfast if we wanted it would be served between 9 and 9.30 which seems late and a short service.

Food was lovely and reasonably priced, staff friendly and very helpful would definitely be back

The bar was very well stocked. I did not have a breakfast I thought it was too expensive.

Lovely little hotel. Staff all friendly and helpful especially Debbie. Food was excellent in the evening and the Breakfast was a great start to my day. Met lots of locals too who were so friendly and made me feel welcome. Would definitely stay again

Room and parking

Although the bed were clean, the carpets and decor could do with a clean

Bed wasn’t very comfortable as it was 2 single mattresses pushed together so there was a hard lump in the middle they also kept moving apart. No parking at all 1 night I had to park on the other side of town. Take this into account if you are expecting parking close by, you may get lucky but most of the time you won’t.

Beautiful location but noisy until the bar closed. Clean room but basic. There's not much on the menu for people requiring specific diets.

This hotel is a very old building with lots of history but with that means there are some quirks and you should not stay here if you you dislike years of use shown in slightly uneven floors, steps, windows. But, if like us you find these quirks charming then this is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in Room 2 which is situated facing the river with three windows to view this from - one in the bathroom if you like a view whilst on the throne!! The rooms are not air-conditioned but a fan was located in the room when we arrived and once the windows had been opened and the fan pointing out of one window to draw push the hot air out, the room was cool in minutes! In the morning though, the room was very warm as the sun shone through all 3 windows. The shower is lovely but pressure is lacking. There is almost limited surfaces to put items on, even the kettle and drinks facilities were tiny - my personal choice would be to remove the wardrobe and provide a few hooks on the wall and put a small table and 2 chairs in the room but what works for us might not work for all and the room was workable for us for 1 night. The bed and pillows were VERY comfortable - i slept the best I have in several weeks! Overall, i enjoyed my stay here and woukd stay here for 1 night again in the future but for a longer duration I would most likely look for somewhere with the additional surface space. The restaurant here was also lovely and sitting by the river enjoying a drink was wonderful.

Staff that we encountered seemed to give different information about breakfast. On enquiring about format we were told ‘ 9 ish’ no set price as we could select from menu, however on taking breakfast full English was only option. It was a good breakfast but had to chase staff for a cup, more tea/coffee, only gave 2 cubes of sugar ?? If you wanted an early start 9/9.30 is too late . Lovely room in a lovely location but again some small niggles. Had to provide our own shampoo/ shower gel, security door wasn’t secure (always open).

Great location ,river views excellent food , Only offer cooked breakfast which was excellent but no fruit or cereals ,parking can be tricky ,overall very good would stay again
