A beautiful property. Traditional Japanese with a boutique feel. Very comfortable and clean.
We received a spacious room with 2 beds. The room has a seating area with sofa. Note that the bathroom is shared with others but we never had any problem with availability or location. The kitchen is equipped with coffee maker, tea kettle, a few pots and plates as well as a small oven and microwave and fridge. We used the kitchen for small meals.
The location is very walkable and right opposite the spot where tourists camp out to take photos of Fujisan but our stay was very quiet as the house was tucked back from the lobby area.
It is a very convenient location to the Pagoda (25 mins walk) and the shrine at the trailhead of Mt. Fuji (about 20-30 mins walk). We walked everywhere but the hotel has a bicycle rental service as well (very reasonable at 500 jpy).
We would definitely return to stay with this hostel again
My husband and I stayed at Hostel Saruya for one night as part of our honeymoon trip to Japan. We are an active couple in our early 30’s who were looking for a Japanese homestay experience near Mt. Fuji. We are so pleased to have chosen Hostel Saruya. We absolutely loved the charming annex building (we stayed on the second floor). The place looks exactly like the photos. We loved the minimalist style! Everything needed was provided: shampoo, body wash, conditioner, electric kettle, tea and coffee, even earplugs. Check in was super easy, the staff are lovely. Everything was CLEAN! The beds were so comfortable! I’d recommend bringing your own eye mask if you prefer sleeping in the dark, as there were no blackout curtains. Earplugs are definitely needed, as the walls are super thin and you can hear other people moving around. Overall, we were bummed to leave so soon! Hostel Saruya was our favorite hotel from the whole trip!
