Lovely food, traditional experience. Landlord is very kind and generous. Note that it is about a 20 minute walk from the ferry. Not terrible but if you're bringing bags it's a shlep! Cabs are in short supply on the island so I would definitely recommend leaving your main bag in Hiroshima and bringing just an overnight bag for your stay.
Lovely, charming ryokan exactly as pictured. The omakase dinner was amazing and the breakfast was also very welcome. It’s in a very quiet part of the village so it’s very peaceful. One of the rooms has a patio great for chilling out and it’s almost dark enough at night to take photos of the Milky Way.
On a side note, I initially just wanted to drop my bags off in morning, but to my surprise, the owner allowed me to check-in early!
Highly recommended stay.
Some things to note:
- There’s a shop across the street (run by an old sweet couple) selling drinks and snacks
- The stairs going up to the rooms are very steep so watch out if you have mobility challenges
- I was greeted my deer the next morning, not sure if this is normal but it was a nice way to top off my stay
Although the location is a bit far from the pier, it's actually close to the exit of the Miyajima Shrink. A few walk from there, you can reach the beach and view the Great Torii. Staff are friendly and the bedding is so comfortable. Will definitely stay here again when coming to Miyajima.
