Pucic Palace is situated in Dubrovnik's only old town square and the location is superb for visiting the walls and main sights on one's own. In terms of service and professionalism, however, this is simply not a five-star hotel, and the price therefore borders on extortionate. The check-in was the least friendly I have ever encountered at any hotel in a lifetime of travel around the world: surly and uninformative, and acting almost as if the sole person at the front desk wished we would simply leave. The attic bedroom had no windows at all, misleading in view of the picture gallery. There were no extra touches of the sort many 4-star hotels provide these days: a welcome drink on a hot day, a flower in the room, some fruits or snack items, chocolate at night, nothing. Towels were not changed until requested. Service continued to be unwelcoming throughout, as if the owners were doing us a favor! The staff seem not to have learned the art of the smile, even in the restaurant, let alone words of welcome. Even the prebooked airport ride at €65 had us waiting on a hot sidewalk while there were some negotiations with a driver (and no water on the ride). If you are looking for a luxury stay in a helpful, welcoming environment, don't stay here. There must be better value for money in Dubrovnik.
