Getting refurbished at the time.so pictures of the room is not what u got.. Overall nice staff and good food

Bedroom was very clean and the bed/mattress was clean and comfortable. Looked as if recently done up? Bathroom and shower except no shaver point. I found the sink shelf in the way of using the sink. Public areas looked a bit tired in places. Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection of cereals and fruit and berries. Hot food had all the usual sections and was hot.

Receptionist was excellent and offered us really good service

Great location. Charming old building. Very helpful staff. Parking outside hotel. Good breakfast with great choice including healthy options. Very quiet room. Spacious room and bathroom.

Nice room, but unfortunately the lights weren't working when we got back to our room (about 11.30 pm)

We have stayed here on previous occasions and always found it to be a good experience. However, our recent visit did not live up to expectations, especially at breakfast on our first day. The hotel staff were conspicuous by their absence with just a single young person on duty trying to fulfil many roles. Breakfast was poor. Hot food warm ant best and absolutely no fruit of any description. Also, there was no dinner provision instead we were directed to the Crescent hotel next door! All very disappointing!

Lovely staff,didn't see Mary queen of Scots ghost as it said it was haunted. Close to Buxton opera house and pavilion gardens, gorgeous scenery. Breakfast standard and in the price,pasties were gorgeous then the hot food,don't think they had vegetarian option. Bar prices reasonable and unfortunately sold out of a lot of draft cider etc.room was massive, beds comfortably .

Big, quiet room, good bed, towels, and breakfast. Parking is confusing. All-day vouchers for the street parking seemed to be available but it also seemed easier to just Pay by Phone. The location is excellent, so it’s understandable that there’s no parking provided directly by the hotel and the daily cost is minimal. The sister hotel is the Crescent Hotel (famous location), which is owned by the same company, and we were ‘upgraded’ there for dinner, which was a pleasant surprise.

Historic place to stay in the centre of Buxton, very handy for all the sights, bars and restaurants. Room was fine and very comfortable. Public areas a little tired but that didn't detract from our stay. Excellent breakfast.

this is a wonderful hotel staffed by great people only to willing to help. Really friendly and there to help. If you want a great stay in Buxton look no further. Close to the Opera House, Pavilion Gardens and the main shopping areas. What's more to like.

A fabulous building in a great spot, but as a hotel it feels like it is on its last legs. We loved our large room and the bedding and towels were clean, but the floors and surfaces were dirty - in particular, the edges of the room had not been vacuumed in months and the ensuite needed a good mop. A previous guest had written "Clean Me!" on the dirty dressing table mirror and this remained throughout our stay. An ongoing refurb does not excuse poor cleanliness. A fabulous free-standing bath was rendered useless due to a faulty plug that would not keep the water in. Conversely, the separate shower cubicle did not drain properly. We were misled by old enticing breakfast menus online - it is now a very unexceptional buffet with shambolic service. Mugs and saucers instead of teacups? Soup spoons for cereal?Anything goes! A fractious receptionist told us to ignore the two different, incorrect dinner menus on display (so we ate elsewhere) as "they" have not removed them. Who are "they"? No-one seems to be in charge or taking responsibility for the running of this hotel.

Lift ancient and breakfast poor.

Staff were great but there simply wasn't enough of them. The lift was out of service or faulty and the stairs are great for someone with a temporary disability. The breakfast staff were very happy and helpful and produced some queality food and refreshments - thank you

Breakfast menu good, but a cup left to use had not been through the dishwasher and was tea stained so I swapped it for one that was clean. Staff good. Room clean enough but could have been better, surface cleaning ok but around taps were a bit mouldy looking. Inside window wasn't clean.

This is a beautiful old building in the very centre of Buxton, a historical spa town that pleasantly surprised me. While the hotel reception and hallways could definitely use some new carpet and renovation, the staff was very friendly, the buffet breakfast was very good, the bedrooms were large, and two out of the three bedrooms that we booked were freshly renovated. The two renovated bedrooms were on the first floor, whereas we stayed on the second floor. While the 2nd floor bedroom was older and ready for an update, it was very large, clean, and comfortable and I have to say that the bed was extremely comfortable. Overall, for the cost of this hotel with a full English breakfast buffet included, it was definitely worth the money. I would certainly stay there again, but I would ask for a bedroom on the first floor.

This wasn’t the old champneys quality I was used to. There was no one major problem, just a lot of mediocre. - On check in at 5pm, no one at reception or even a clear sign, no bell. Waited quite a while for someone to show up. - At breakfast I stood by the sign saying wait here to be seated. Initially no one there, then a waiter arrived at the other end of the dining room, just stared at me briefly, said “Breakfast?” Quietly across the whole length of the restaurant, I replied yes. He stood his ground at the opposite end so I walked across to him. He then said “You can sit there” and indicated a table that I’d walked past. All while he didn’t move. - I was an hour prior to breakfast ending, but they started removing table cloths leaving just bare wooden table next to me. - Room was clean but very tired, as was the bathroom. in desperate need of some renovation. Corridors were musty.

The welcome at reception was friendly and helpful. Our room was a decent size and dog friendly. Hotel is like a rabbit warren but well sign posted. Comfortable bed and efficient shower, decor was a bit tired and the lift was an old style metal gate which relied on other customers closing the gate after use so others could use it. Breakfast was served in a light and roomy restaurant, however as we had our dog with us we had to sit in the bar ( this was being repaired with scaffolding and noisy by us so disappointing experience)

The bedroom was spacious and clean. The bathroom was spotless. The tea and coffee provided were great quality. The beds were comfortable but a bit creaky. The floor was uneven and creaky so a bit noisy when moving around. The common areas in the hotel are shabby, although it's an old building it could do with some updating. Our reservation included free parking yet we were charged for a parking permit.

This is a very old hotel with all the charms that brings so don’t expect a sparkling new hotel but we loved for those idiosyncrasies which is the part of the hotel.
