Hotel is in former County Council offices and has really unique and attractive decor. Very friendly and helpful staff. Marco Pierre White Restaurant worth a visit

Lovely clean spacious room , quick check-in friendly staff in RESTAURANT and coffee bar good breakfast .. only negative is the price of overnight parking.. £20 to park in the Hotel car park overnight.. much cheaper to park on the street outside … otherwise excellent Hotel.. happy to stay there again

Outside the place needs a good clean also the car park needs the trees cutting back as it makes the hotel look run down. Reception staff weren’t very friendly on the Sunday but Mondays staff were a lot friendlier. The computers on reception had cobwebs all over the back of them. Our room was lovely until we found a small jug under the wardrobe then noticed the walls were full of cobwebs also in the bathroom behind the door. When you are paying a lot more than you would for travel lodge or a premier inn hotel you want better quality and I’m afraid this wasn’t

Very comfortable accommodation and great breakfast.

The building itself is absolutely beautiful but it is now looking tired and in need of a refurbishment. The location is excellent very central. We dined in the Marco Pierre Steakhouse and whilst the waitresses were very pleasant the food was terrible. The meat was poor quality and the cost was through the roof which we would have not minded paying if it had been worth it. In their defence they did give us a reduction on the final bill without quibble but our expectations of the experience fell short,

The building has been renovated to a very high standard and kept the original structure intact, preserving the architectural features of the former council chambers. The staff were excellent, the food delightful and the bar experience benefitted with the unique surroundings.

The hotel is an amazing conversion of the old county council offices, so it has character and style as well as the amenities you need. Wonderful food. And it's in the heart of the city with the Wear smoothly wandering by. Love it.

Hotel Indigo is a pleasant hotel in an excellent location for a lovely city. The hotel is a Grade 11 listed building and some of the rooms are dated, well used and a bit shabby. We had a cathedral facing room which had a pleasant view but was very hot on our arrival and took a long time to cool down. The sheets were grubby.

Very nice staff. Decent rooms and walking distance to everything.

It was so lovely to stay in a hotel with character and history. Beautiful stained glass windows and the dining area adapted from the main council chamber. Delicious breakfast each day with a variety of choices and friendly and welcoming staff
