A very large dated hotel undergoing refurbishment whilst still functioning for business. Town centre location and busy. A good menu with quick service. The downside of our stay was the location of our bedroom immediately below the boiler system. The noise became unbearable when trying to sleep on a warm night. This was resolved by a lovely lady on night reception duty who relocated us to a much quieter and cooler room. Good breakfast selection with very fast service.

Nice looking old building, full of character in keeping with surroundings, however the downside to this was poor internal layout. There was a (small) lift but even with a lift we still had few steps up & down to get to our room so not a problem for us but less abled/non ambient may not have been able to enjoy their stay. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice of buffet items & hot food off menu cooked to order. Staff at breakfast lovely. No air conditioning in room, only in bar. As we had heatwave it would have been nice but we’re in UK so not usually an issue. Minor building works going on (late May 26).

Not sure why this is rated so highly on this site. The hotel is very dated and quite drab. You can hear the running water of neighbouring room taps. To get to the room you have to walk quite away including through a room which has piles of junk mounted up. One good point was that the breakfast was listed here as continental breakfast but also included options for cooked breakfast included.

I booked this room last minute as I was let down by a booking at another hotel where the hotel was closed when I got there! A room was ready when I arrived minutes later. The hotel has a lot of character and the quick continental breakfast was just what I needed when I was working. What made this place stand out was all the staff were super friendly and helpful. So much so that when silly me left my credit card at the counter when I was leaving they very kindly posted it back to my home address which saved a lot of faff cancelling my old card. Thank you very much :)

Room and breakfast

Nice hotel but the rooms need some upgrading now which appears to have already started. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very nice and would recommend. The staff are all very pleasant and give great advice.

The breakfast was wonderful - but the room was not great - it was right next to an alley where people were drinking/smoking into the night; so pretty noisy (no double-glazing). There was no shampoo and the mirror light kept going on and off! The hotel is undergoing renovations which might be the problem. Wouldn’t recommend for now, despite much appreciating the breakfast.

Restaurant and bar very good. Staff good too. Ideal location in the centre of Wantage. Ideal for bus services as stop right outside.

Clean rooms

We reported an issue with the shower which was not resolved. On the first day I asked for Gluten free bread and was told by the server that you did not cater for this. On the second morning a different server was on and offered us gluten free when we sat down.

the room was excellent on the ground floor . Staff were friendly and we had an excellent meal in the restaurant and amazing breakfast .
