Not sure this place was happy to have non Japanese traveler. I just felt unwanted. Although the older gentleman who was working when I checked in was awesome, he helped me with an early check-in one hour early. I was not allowed to use any of the facilities (pool or onsen) because of tattoos but I still had to pay onsen tax when checking out. I showed up to breakfast around nine and was told I couldn’t eat because they close at 9:30. It was buffet style, so I figured 30 minutes would be enough to have a quick breakfast. Also, a restaurant nearby would not let me eat because I did not speak Japanese. Atami was a beautiful town, but unfortunately, I don’t think I would return.
