What a beautiful property! The rooms are spacious and lovely with comfy beds, we slept with the window open to hear the babbling brook that runs along next door. The meals were delicious, the staff friendly and helpful and the bar has a nice selection. Highly recommend this lovely hotel in a beautiful spot!

Gorgeous hotel, rooms were well appointed... No TV was an added bonus! Lounge area was lovely to sit in the evening, playing one of the many boardgames. Restaurant was a little cramped (but this might have been due to the beautiful Christmas tree that was on display) but the food was incredible! We will definitely be back!

We stayed in the family room which was excellent. All of the staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast had a good choice and high quality ingredients and products. And the afternoon scones and jam were delicious! Highly recommended and we’d definitely stay again.

Very clean and welcoming hotel. Service and food great but only let down by a surprise £30 being added to the bill for the dog staying. Otherwise, we would be back.

The new owners have retained the character and comfort of the Royal Oak but have improved the facilities. The food was nice but I don’t understand why veg and potatoes are charged extra.

We had a lovely stay at The Royal Oak. Our room was gorgeous the beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed and more. I couldn’t recommend this place enough it had a lovely feel and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

This is a great little find in a perfect, beautiful location. The staff are so friendly and helpful - we really wished we were staying longer and plan to come back shortly. The food (we had an evening meal and breakfast) was outstanding and such good value. We can't wait to return.

Lovely Hotel, out of way with great scenery. Staff is lovely and very welcoming and the food was great too! Would have preferred a harder mattress but otherwise the room was super comfy and spacious. Would definitely go again.

5 night stay with dog

Loved all the produce was local and excellent quality including toiletries. The food was delicious and staff very friendly and attentive. Hotel has been beautifully renovated recently and was spotless. Excellent location for so many fantastic walks, including Scafell Pike.

The Royal Oak is in a stunning location and there has clearly been a lot of investment in upgrading the facilities and decor. This has resulted in very stylish, thoughtfully designed, high quality accommodation. The room & bathroom were gorgeous with good storage, a very comfortable bed and good quality fabrics, linen & towels. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We very much enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast, both cooked well and with good quality ingredients. The indoor spaces are well laid out, the courtyard was cool and peaceful and the garden was sunny and well tended. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the chap who checked us in and worked in the evening (he has dark hair and a beard but we’re sorry we didn’t ask his name). We would definitely recommend a stay here and are already planning to return.
