Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the calming scent of essential oils. The hotel staff was very friendly, and the food was delicious and always well-stocked. Drinking water was also freely refillable on each floor in the corridor. Most importantly, the hotel is very child-friendly, with a playground, swimming pool, and cute children's floats. The rooms were also very clean. The hotel's strategic location in the city center is also perfect for a night out. Perhaps they could add fragrances/essential oils to the corridors on each floor to make them smell nice.

From hearty, savory dishes to sweet, delicate treats, the food scene here provides a genuine gastronomic journey for international visitors. Exploring Boyolali's cuisine is an integral part of understanding its culture and connecting with its people, offering a delicious insight into daily life.

The most iconic dishes to seek out in Boyolali include Nasi Tumpeng, a cone-shaped rice dish often served during celebrations, and Sate Kelinci (rabbit satay), a local specialty particularly popular in the cooler highland areas like Selo, due to the abundance of rabbits. Another must-try is Gudeg, a traditional Javanese dish made from young jackfruit stewed in coconut milk and palm sugar, though it's more commonly associated with nearby Yogyakarta, variations can be found. For those seeking simpler, everyday fare, Ayam Goreng (fried chicken) and various types of Gado-Gado (vegetable salad with peanut sauce) are widely available and delicious.

For an authentic dining experience, exploring the local markets and street food stalls is highly recommended. In Boyolali City Center, the Pasar Boyolali offers a vibrant atmosphere where you can sample local snacks and meals. Areas around Selo are known for their Sate Kelinci, often found in small warungs (eateries) with stunning mountain views. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal food is generally straightforward, as the majority of Indonesian cuisine is Halal. Look for the Halal certification logo on restaurant premises or ask locals, who are usually happy to guide you to Halal-certified eateries.

Dining in Boyolali offers remarkable value for international travellers. Street food and meals at local warungs can be enjoyed for as little as USD 1-3 per person. Mid-range restaurants typically charge between USD 5-10 per meal, offering a more comfortable dining experience with a wider menu selection. Even more upscale dining options, often found in hotels, rarely exceed USD 20-30 per person, making Boyolali an exceptionally affordable destination for food lovers compared to many Western countries or even other major Indonesian cities.

When dining in Boyolali, it's helpful to be aware of local customs. Meals are typically eaten with a spoon and fork, though some dishes are traditionally eaten with hands (using the right hand). Tipping is not customary in most local eateries, but rounding up the bill or leaving a small amount for exceptional service is appreciated. Be open to trying new flavors and don't hesitate to ask for recommendations. Learning a few basic Indonesian phrases like "Terima kasih" (thank you) can go a long way in enhancing your dining experience and showing respect for local culture.
