Your Antipolo Travel Guide

Getting to Antipolo from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Antipolo is a common route for those coming from Manila. You can take a bus or a UV Express van from terminals in Cubao or Ortigas, which will take you directly to the city center. For those arriving from other islands, you should first book flight tickets to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. From the airport, you can take a taxi or a ride-sharing service to reach the bus terminals heading to Rizal.

The travel time from Manila to Antipolo typically ranges from one to two hours, depending on the traffic conditions along the major highways. If you are traveling during peak hours, expect a longer commute. Using a ride-sharing app is often the most comfortable way to travel, especially if you have heavy luggage, as it provides a direct door-to-door service to your chosen accommodation.

Once you are in Antipolo, the city is well-connected by local transport. Jeepneys are the most common way to get around the main roads, while tricycles are the primary mode of transport for navigating the smaller streets and residential areas. Always keep some small change handy for these local rides, as they are an affordable and authentic way to experience the city's layout and local culture.

Best Time to Visit Antipolo

The best time to visit Antipolo is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is cooler and more pleasant, making it ideal for outdoor activities like visiting museums and exploring the local gardens. The clear skies also provide better visibility for enjoying the panoramic views of the Metro Manila skyline from the higher elevations of the city.

If you visit during the rainy season, which usually starts in June, you can expect frequent showers. While this might limit some outdoor plans, it also brings a lush, green landscape to the hills of Rizal. Many travelers prefer the cooler temperatures of the rainy season, provided they have a flexible itinerary. Regardless of when you visit, checking the local weather forecast is always a smart move.

Food and Dining in Antipolo — Filipino Must-Tries

When in Antipolo, you must try the local suman, a sticky rice cake wrapped in banana leaves. It is often served with latik or a side of mangoes. You can find these in the stalls surrounding the Antipolo Cathedral. It is a staple snack that represents the culinary heritage of the region and is a favorite among both locals and visiting tourists.

Cashew nuts are another specialty of the city. You will see many vendors selling roasted or fried cashews in various flavors. These make for excellent souvenirs or snacks to enjoy while you are exploring the city. The quality of the nuts in Antipolo is well-known, and they are a must-buy if you want to bring a piece of the local flavor home with you.

For a full meal, look for restaurants that serve traditional Filipino dishes like sinigang or adobo. Many dining spots in Antipolo offer a view of the city, which enhances the dining experience. Trying these classic dishes in a highland setting provides a unique perspective on Filipino comfort food. Don't forget to pair your meal with a refreshing local drink like buko juice.

Finally, explore the local cafes that have popped up around the city. These establishments often feature modern takes on traditional ingredients. Whether you are looking for a hearty breakfast or a late-night snack, the food scene in Antipolo is diverse and caters to various tastes. Exploring these dining options is a great way to immerse yourself in the local lifestyle during your stay.

Local Culture, Safety and Essential Apps in Antipolo

Antipolo is a city that values its religious and cultural roots. When visiting the cathedral or other sacred sites, it is respectful to dress modestly. The locals are generally friendly and welcoming to visitors. If you need assistance, do not hesitate to ask, as the community is accustomed to tourists and pilgrims visiting throughout the year.

Safety is generally good in the city, but it is always wise to practice standard travel precautions. Keep your belongings secure in crowded areas and be aware of your surroundings. In case of an emergency, the national emergency hotline is 911. Having this number saved in your phone is a simple step that ensures you are prepared for any unexpected situations.

To make your travel easier, download essential apps like Grab for transportation and Google Maps for navigation. These tools are highly effective for getting around and finding your way to local attractions. Additionally, having the Traveloka app installed allows you to manage your bookings, check for updates, and find new activities to enjoy while you are in the city.

The hotel was clean, comfortable, and made for a really pleasant stay. Breakfast was easily the highlight, with top notch traditional Filipino dishes that felt fresh, flavorful, and worth waking up for. The room and common areas were well kept, and everything felt comfortable throughout the stay. The only downside was the WiFi, which was pretty unreliable at times. Overall, a great stay with excellent food and comfort, but the internet could definitely use improvement.

The room I booked with 2 queen bed was big, room is dirty, amenities was okay, wifi was very very slow, front desk agent(lady) during check in seems like she is not happy with her job, rude and doesnt know what she is doing, There is a lobby inside the hotel that most of the time there is no staff, You will have to go out and will find them in another area eating or chatting, and theyre not happy accomodating you once you ask for help, Other than that, Pool was excellent and clean, staff that are working by the pool area was very helpful.

Wifi is only in the lobby and it has a certain number of hours you can connect for a day. Your device will automatically get "connected without internet" if you've been using the wifi for about 4 hours as per my observation. Cirrently only 3 pools are working. Customer service is poor. You need to tell everything before it can happen.

My family spent the Christmas Eve here but there's no restaurant inside and no wifi as well. The several pools and hot tubs expected to work were almost closed as only 3 works. The room smells bad and the bed sheets were dirty. It's hard to sleep.

I was hoping to get a good deal because I booked through hotels.com. But I discovered that I paid the same amount as the walk-in rate. Since I checked in late, I requested for a late check out; the request was firmly declined, despite the fact that we appeared to have been the only guests in the hotel! There were many pools and they were okay- teeners would enjoy the "disco pool" - but there was nothing therapeutic in the therapy pool. Lots of guests on either "day tour" or "night tour" so whether this is advantageous depends on your preference; just don't expect any Antipolo-esque nature trip here, except maybe for their captive monkeys. Breakfast was prepared beforehand, so you'll have cold food if you're late for your agreed time. Coffee was instant, while juice was Tang!
