Your Travel Guide to Makati as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Makati from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other islands in the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Metro Manila is the most efficient option. Major airlines operate frequent flights from key cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo to Manila. You can book flight tickets on Traveloka, with fares often ranging from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book.

From NAIA, reaching Makati is convenient. Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available, offering a direct route to your accommodation. The travel time can range from 30 minutes to over an hour, depending heavily on traffic. For budget-conscious travelers, public buses and the LRT/MRT system can also be utilized, though they may require transfers and more travel time.

If you are traveling from Luzon's northern or southern regions, bus travel is a viable and economical choice. Numerous bus companies offer routes to Metro Manila terminals, from where you can take another bus, jeepney, or taxi to Makati. Bus fares typically range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500, depending on the origin and type of service. Driving your own vehicle is also an option, with major expressways leading into Metro Manila, though be prepared for toll fees and urban traffic.

Best Time to Visit Makati

Makati experiences a tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season, generally from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring the city. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for walking around and visiting outdoor attractions. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 33°C.

The peak tourist season often coincides with the cooler, drier months, particularly from December to February, due to the holiday season and generally favorable weather. If you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or March. The wet season, from May to October, brings frequent rain showers, which can sometimes be heavy but are often short-lived.

For Filipino travelers, understanding these patterns can help in planning. The dry season is generally preferred for comfort, but the wet season can offer a different perspective of the city, with fewer tourists and lush surroundings. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Makati offers a dynamic urban experience year-round.

Food and Dining Near Makati — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Makati is a culinary hotspot, offering everything from street food to fine dining. A must-try for any Filipino traveler is **Adobo**. This iconic dish, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. You can find excellent versions in local eateries around Poblacion.

Another essential dish is **Sinigang**, a sour and savory soup, usually made with tamarind broth and your choice of meat (pork, beef, or fish) and vegetables. Its comforting, tangy flavor is perfect for any weather. Look for restaurants serving traditional Filipino cuisine to sample an authentic bowl.

Don't leave without trying **Lechon**, a whole roasted pig known for its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While a whole lechon is often for celebrations, many restaurants offer lechon kawali (fried pork belly) or lechon paksiw (lechon simmered in vinegar sauce) as delicious alternatives. For a taste of something sweet, **Halo-Halo** is a popular Filipino dessert, a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ice cream.

For a quick and satisfying meal, **Lumpia** (spring rolls) are a fantastic choice. Whether fried or fresh, filled with vegetables or meat, they are a popular snack or appetizer. Exploring the local markets and smaller restaurants in areas like Poblacion will give you access to these authentic flavors and more.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Makati

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When in Makati, embracing this spirit means being respectful of local customs. Greetings are important; a simple "Magandang umaga/hapon/gabi" (Good morning/afternoon/evening) goes a long way. While English is widely spoken, making an effort with basic Tagalog phrases is appreciated.

Safety in Makati is generally good, especially in well-trafficked areas like Poblacion and the central business district. However, like any major city, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded places, and avoid displaying expensive items openly. It’s advisable to use reputable ride-sharing apps or hotel-arranged transport at night.

For emergencies, the local police hotline is 117. Having a reliable internet connection is helpful, and you can use apps like Grab for transportation and food delivery, GCash or Maya for mobile payments, and Google Maps for navigation. These tools can significantly enhance your experience and safety while exploring Makati.

We just stayed here for one night, but it was a great place to explore the surrounding area of Manila - a lot of restaurants and places are reachable by foot, and it is also not too far from the airport. The hotel and room were clean and had everything you needed. The rooftop terrace was also lovely in the evening! The only things worth noting is that there was no hot water in the shower (as in many places in the Philippines), and no elevator.

The hotel is conveniently located in the center of Manila. Service was all right, check-in was delayed a bit but they kindly stored our luggage upon check-out. The rooms are very clean and well-maintained. If you are a light sleeper I don’t recommend this hotel since you can hear every sound on the street during the night time. Overall however, I would recommend this hotel as a budget option when staying In Manila!

Nice place, bit small but that's Manilla. Lot of trouble closing the shower door if you're BIG like me! Narrow stairs, no elevator, luckily we were on the 2nd floor, but my friend on the 3rd! Breakfast is Tea (but they run out on the last day!) or coffee with a cinnamon roll! Nice but not what I would call breakfast!

We needed a place in Poblacion that was budget-friendly and was in walking distance of the nightlife district, and this was a great choice! We were able to have a quick and hassle-free reservation through an online booking app. The front desk and staff were very accommodating. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived at the earliest check-in time, but they compensated with complimentary drinks. I loved the interior of the hotel and our room was very clean. I recommend the Studio room for couples. I also liked the roof deck, it's a nice place to chill and bring in your own food and drinks to end the night. We also felt very safe during our stay since it's near the police station. The complimentary breakfast's servings were very small, but I personally didn't mind since I don't like big meals in the morning. Food and drinks at the deli are a bit pricey, but there are several restaurants nearby anyways. Definitely coming back again :)

For the price , you will be hard pressed to find a better place where the staff are excellent and the environment so rounding the facilities are safe. It was a blessing staying there.

Will surely come back here! Awesome location. Near to Poblacion's resto and bars. Place is tiny but it's still comfy.
