I had a very pleasant stay at the Infinity Tower for several weeks. The staff was always so kind and welcoming. Whenever I requested something, they responded very promptly and professionally. The room was quite large with a nice sized bathroom. The hotel is in a very nice area with many restaurants and malls nearby.

Your Travel Guide to Makati as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Makati from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Metro Manila is the most common method. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate frequent flights to Manila from various provincial capitals. Flight durations typically range from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on your origin. Fares can vary significantly, but booking in advance through platforms like Traveloka can help secure more affordable rates. From NAIA, you can take a taxi, a ride-sharing service, or a pre-booked airport transfer to reach Makati, a journey that usually takes 30-60 minutes depending on traffic.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, taking a bus is a more economical option. Numerous bus companies operate routes to Metro Manila from various provincial terminals. Major bus terminals in Metro Manila include those in Cubao, Pasay, and Taft Avenue. From these terminals, you can transfer to a bus or jeepney bound for Makati, or take a taxi.

Bus fares are generally much lower than airfare, ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 800, and travel times can range from 3 to 8 hours depending on the distance. Planning your bus trip to arrive at a terminal with good connections to Makati is advisable.

Driving to Makati is also an option for those coming from accessible regions in Luzon. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to Metro Manila's road network. You will need to navigate through the city's streets to reach Makati. Toll fees will apply, and it's important to be prepared for potentially heavy traffic, especially during peak hours. Having a reliable GPS or navigation app is highly recommended. You can also book flight tickets for a quicker journey if time is a constraint.

Best Time to Visit Makati

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Makati is no exception. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for exploring the city's attractions, shopping, and dining outdoors. Temperatures generally range from 25°C to 35°C. This period, especially from December to February, offers the most pleasant weather for sightseeing and enjoying the urban landscape.

The wet season, from May to October, brings higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy afternoon downpours. While this season can see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it might disrupt outdoor activities and make commuting more challenging due to traffic congestion caused by rain. However, for travelers who don't mind occasional rain and are looking for a more budget-friendly trip, the wet season can still be a viable option, as many of Makati's attractions are indoors.

For those looking to experience local festivities, visiting during major holidays can be rewarding, though accommodation and flights might be more expensive. The period around Christmas and New Year is particularly festive in Makati, with elaborate decorations and events. Ultimately, the "best" time depends on your priorities, whether it's ideal weather, budget considerations, or experiencing specific cultural events.

Food and Dining Near Makati — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Makati is a culinary hotspot, offering everything from traditional Filipino fare to international cuisine. When in the area, you must try Adobo, the Philippines' unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. Many eateries in Makati offer their own unique take on this classic.

Another dish to seek out is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that is incredibly comforting. It can be made with various meats like pork, beef, or shrimp, and is characterized by its distinct sourness, usually derived from tamarind, but sometimes from guava or other fruits. The vegetables in the soup, such as kangkong, radish, and tomatoes, add to its hearty nature. Finding a restaurant that serves a well-balanced Sinigang is a treat.

For those who enjoy grilled specialties, Lechon is a must-try. This whole roasted pig, with its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat, is a celebratory dish often found at gatherings and special occasions. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants in Makati offer lechon portions, allowing you to savor this Filipino delicacy. The rich, smoky flavor is truly distinctive.

Don't leave Makati without trying Halo-Halo for dessert. This popular Filipino treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's a refreshing and visually appealing dessert that perfectly caps off a meal, especially in the tropical climate. Many cafes and restaurants in Makati serve their own versions, each with a unique combination of ingredients.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Makati

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals in Makati, a polite demeanor and a friendly smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or those in positions of authority, showing respect. While Makati is generally safe, especially in well-lit commercial areas, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded places. Keep your valuables secure and be mindful of petty theft.

For safety, it's advisable to stick to well-trafficked areas, especially at night. If you encounter any emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. For local police assistance in Makati, you can contact their hotline. It's also a good idea to have the hotel's contact information readily available. When using taxis or ride-sharing services, ensure the meter is used or the fare is agreed upon beforehand to avoid any misunderstandings.

Essential apps for navigating Makati include ride-sharing apps like Grab, which is widely used for transportation and food delivery. Google Maps is invaluable for navigation, helping you find your way around the city and estimate travel times. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are popular among Filipinos. Having these apps installed on your smartphone will greatly enhance your convenience and safety during your stay.

It’s kind of decent, but the cleanliness is not that great, there are small roaches roaming around the room, most likely because it’s an old building?

This place is an average stay. Rooms are nice and spacious, but there definitely are some updates needed. Showers are old and falling apart. Toilets struggle to flush. Shower head is spraying every which way but straight. Not a bad place, but just needs updates, thats all.

I really liked the location of this property as it was close to where I needed to be. It also has a restaurant which was a plus. However the hotel rooms could use a bit of cleaning. My first room gave me a nasty headache as it smelled musty. My second room the shower room needed to be scrubbed it was gross. And the whole room smelled like Clorox. But I loved the front desk clerks they were very very accommodating and tried to meet my needs at the hotel.

A pretty poor stay. The room was dreadful. An AC that blew directly into the bed and could not be controlled, a constant green flashing light that lit up the room every half second, an uncomfortable will very limited bedding. WiFi required constant reconnection. Not good if you are there in business. Booked for 6 nights but checked out after the first night. Staff didn’t care.

The following are the pointers on why you should avoid this hotel: 1) Upon arriving early, I did requested an early check in if possible however the receptionist mentioned that check in could only be done at 3pm therefore I wandered around the area until 1.30pm to reach back to the hotel. At the hotel I waited at the lobby sofa area as I’m still early but to my surprise is that there were two travellers able to check in with ease. Once the travellers checked in, the receptionist reluctantly told me that they can help me to do the check in. 2) Once they processed the check in, they told me that at my floor level 30. The lift up & down button is spoilt therefore will need to call the receptionist from the hotel room in order to go down which is really a hassle. 3) In the hotel room, I’m shocked to see that there were only 1 bathing towel (even though I booked the room for 2 pax) with no floor mat which is a slip trip fall hazard, not only that all this were not available. The hotel room fridge was not in too & the receptionist confirmed that it’s a false advertisement as shown in the Expedia apps. By the way, the room that I booked was a deluxe room. It was such a bad experience that I checked out on the day (at evening time) that I checked in. To Expedia, do kindly look into this seriously to advertise what is the actual services that the hotel can provide

We asked for an extra bed, most places will give you one for free or for a small charge. This hotel doesn’t do that. It is sad.
