Last minute booking on New Year's Eve, gave us an unexpected surprise! Breakfast was a delight with the variety of Filipino and Western options. The front desk secured us a truly last minute tour island hopping. Besides the lack of WiFi in the rooms, the location a bit apart from the hustle and bustle yet close to everything, was a major plus too!

Check-in and Check-out Information

Upon arrival at La Casa Teresa Annex, you can proceed with check-in starting from 14:00. This standard check-in time allows the hotel staff ample time to prepare your room after the previous guest's departure, ensuring it is clean and ready for your arrival. When you check in, be prepared to present a valid identification document, such as a government-issued ID or passport, for verification purposes.

If you happen to arrive earlier than the designated check-in time, you can inquire at the front desk if an early check-in is possible. While not guaranteed, the hotel may accommodate early arrivals if your room is already prepared. If not, you can usually leave your luggage with the hotel staff and begin exploring the nearby areas or relax in the common spaces until your room is ready.

For your departure, the check-out time is before 12:00. This allows the hotel to commence cleaning and preparation for incoming guests. If you require a later check-out, it's advisable to request this in advance with the front desk. Depending on the hotel's occupancy, a late check-out might be possible, sometimes for an additional fee. If a late check-out isn't feasible, you can typically store your luggage at the hotel after checking out, giving you more time to enjoy El Nido before your departure.

Your Travel Guide to El Nido as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to El Nido from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach El Nido from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. You can book a flight to Lio Airport (ENI) in El Nido or to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Flights to Lio Airport are generally more expensive but significantly cut down on travel time, offering direct access to the El Nido area. From Lio Airport, a short van ride will take you to your accommodation.

Alternatively, flying into Puerto Princesa and then taking a van transfer to El Nido is a more budget-friendly option. The van journey from Puerto Princesa to El Nido takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. While longer, this route allows you to see more of Palawan's diverse landscapes. You can book flight tickets to either airport through Traveloka, comparing prices and schedules to find the best fit for your travel plans and budget.

For those seeking the most economical travel, bus services are available from Manila to El Nido, but this is a very long journey, often spanning over 24 hours. This option is best suited for travelers with ample time and a strong preference for overland travel. For most Filipino travelers, the combination of a flight to Puerto Princesa followed by a van transfer offers the best balance of cost and travel time to reach the stunning shores of El Nido.

Best Time to Visit El Nido

The dry season, from November to May, is generally considered the best time to visit El Nido. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calm seas, and minimal rainfall, which are ideal conditions for island hopping, swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities that El Nido is famous for. The peak tourist season falls between December and April, so expect larger crowds and higher prices for flights and accommodation during this period.

For travelers looking to avoid the biggest crowds while still enjoying favorable weather, the shoulder months of November and May can be excellent choices. You'll find fewer tourists, potentially better deals, and still experience the beauty of El Nido with generally good weather. The sea conditions are usually calm enough for all tours to operate without significant disruption.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rain and stronger winds. While this period can offer a more tranquil experience with fewer visitors and lower prices, tours may be subject to cancellation or changes due to weather conditions. However, even during the wet season, there are often periods of sunshine, and the landscapes can appear even more lush and vibrant.

Food and Dining Near El Nido — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is diverse and delicious, and El Nido offers a fantastic opportunity to sample local flavors. When in El Nido, you must try fresh seafood, which is abundant in this coastal town. Grilled fish, squid, and prawns are common offerings, often prepared simply to highlight their natural freshness. Look for restaurants that display their catch of the day.

Another must-try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, creating a tangy and refreshing dish that is perfect for the tropical climate. It’s a staple in many Filipino households and a delightful appetizer or light meal.

Don't leave El Nido without trying La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo. While it might seem unusual to have a noodle soup in a tropical setting, its rich, savory broth and generous toppings of pork, chicharon, and vegetables make it a comforting and satisfying meal, especially after a long day of exploring. Many local eateries and carinderias serve this dish.

For a sweet treat, seek out Halo-Halo, the iconic Filipino dessert. This colorful concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s the perfect way to cool down and indulge your sweet tooth. You can find Halo-Halo in most restaurants and dessert stalls throughout El Nido.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for El Nido

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. When interacting with locals in El Nido, a simple "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect local customs, dress modestly when visiting religious sites, and always ask for permission before taking photos of people. El Nido is generally a safe place for tourists, but it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings.

When exploring, especially on island tours, listen carefully to your guides and follow safety instructions. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For any emergencies, the local police and medical services are available. It’s a good idea to save important contact numbers in your phone, such as your hotel's number and local emergency services.

To enhance your travel experience in El Nido, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigation, even offline. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter phrases you don't understand, though English is widely spoken in tourist areas. For booking transportation and tours, having the Traveloka app handy is recommended for easy access to services and potential deals.

Finally, ensure you have a reliable communication app like WhatsApp or Messenger to stay connected with your travel companions and loved ones. These apps are widely used in the Philippines and can be invaluable for coordinating meetups or sharing your adventures. Having these tools readily available will make your trip to El Nido smoother and more enjoyable.

At first they assigned us to the main old building because they said the rooms in annex where I made reservations thru expedia was reserved for VIPs. The rooms were not ready, smell so bad and pathway going to the building is filthy, rocky and lot of mosquitoes and flies as we passed by. I went back to the office and contested for my actual reservation at the annex building. Finally they gave us our 2 rooms reservation. As I went to the room, it smelled like a toilet exhaust. I asked for an air freshener which they did and smelled better. As I washed my hands in the bathroom, the pipe was leaking and water was flowing to my feet. Someone came to fix it and showed him where the leak was coming from. He said it was because of the food stuff that got stuck in the sink so he removed and said it's now working well. We just got in the room and nobody else among my family has used the sink except me to wash my hands after using the toilet. Before bedtime, I used the sink again to brush my teeth, still the leak is there. I have to report it again for second chance to fix. My experience here is a nightmare, first time ever to have this disgusting experience, so far. After the staff checked my reservations online, they probably realized that I deserved a better treatment or service. The staff apologized several times to me but the relaxing vacation mode has been ruined. I just hope they will do better with their other clients.

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. The staff were friendly, but upon arrival, I noticed that the surroundings in the annex were dirty. They provided towels only once during our entire stay, and the beddings were never changed. The complimentary breakfast included rice, three very small pieces of fish balls, a small piece of meatloaf, soup, a pancake, and coffee or juice. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi in the annex was terrible, and the water pressure in the shower was very slow.

When i made a booking it says propety is by the beach. It is but theres no beach really, the beach they have infront is just wide enough for people to walk during high tide, on low tide you’ll see rocky sand and not good for swimming, you have to walk to find a good place to swim. We left the property and stayed in a didferent hotel. The hotel is very clean though and staff are nice. Breakfast is ok, their chicken adobo is mostly bone, can’t really enjoy eating it

This Hotel had a pretty simple standard. The bathroom was better than the previous Hotel I stayed at in El Nido. The staff was nice and it was a nice view from the public spaces on each flor. Good space for hanging and storing your clothes. The bed wasn’t that great and there were no decorations or things to do in your room (no TV). Wifi and celluar phone didn’t work in my room. Nowhere to hang your wet towels. The breakfast was so-so (Phillipino). Mostly phillipinos in the Hotel. a lot of noice earlyein the morning when breakfast starts.

Literally no wifi and the water was smelly. Breakfast was not good. They didn't clean my room unless I asked them. However, they were friendly and responsive when I spoke to them about issues.

Got very dark room (no sunlight at all) and rooms lights were very poor. Had to use own camping light in bathroom to get sufficient light for makeup etc.

This Hotel was the worst Hotel during our trip. The food was terrible, the breakfast was not included with egg (you have to pay extra for that) Only one breadtoaster with room for 2 breadslice, that made a long que each morning. At 23.00 they made reperationsjob, changing lock to rooms in our hallway. We had to tell them that we tried to sleep.... a lot of noise all the time through the Wall. You can hear everything.
