Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other islands in the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is the most common and efficient method. Flights from major cities like Cebu, Davao, or Iloilo typically range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000, depending on the airline, booking time, and season. The flight duration is usually between 1 to 2 hours. From NAIA, Park Bed and Breakfast Hotel Pasay is a short taxi or ride-sharing service away.

If you are traveling from Luzon's northern or southern regions, bus travel is a viable and budget-friendly option. Buses from Baguio, for instance, can take around 5-6 hours and cost approximately PHP 500-700. From Bicol, expect a longer journey of 8-10 hours with fares around PHP 800-1,200. These buses usually arrive at terminals in Pasay, from where you can take a local taxi or jeepney to reach your accommodation.

Driving to Pasay offers flexibility, especially if you are coming from nearby provinces in Luzon. Major expressways like the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connect to Metro Manila. Toll fees can vary, but budget around PHP 300-500 for round trips from accessible areas. Having your own vehicle allows you to explore Pasay and its surroundings at your own pace. Remember to book flight tickets in advance for better rates if flying.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Pasay is no exception. The dry season, generally from November to April, is considered the most pleasant time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 33°C.

The wet season runs from May to October, characterized by higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of short, intense downpours. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it's advisable to pack an umbrella and be prepared for occasional disruptions to outdoor plans. Despite the rain, many indoor attractions and shopping malls remain fully accessible.

For Filipino travelers looking to avoid the largest crowds and potentially find better deals on accommodation and flights, the shoulder months of November and February can be particularly good. These periods fall within the dry season but may offer a slightly less crowded experience compared to the peak holiday months of December and January. Planning your visit during these times can offer a balanced experience of good weather and manageable crowds.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Pasay and the wider Metro Manila area offer a culinary landscape that reflects the Philippines' diverse flavors. A must-try dish is Adobo, the unofficial national dish, featuring meat (usually chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even some hotel restaurants.

Another Filipino favorite is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth and a choice of meat or seafood, along with various vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its comforting taste is perfect for any weather. For a taste of something sweet and refreshing, Halo-halo is essential. This popular dessert is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream.

For those who enjoy grilled specialties, Lechon Manok (roasted chicken) and Liempo (grilled pork belly) are widely available and incredibly popular. The smoky aroma and savory taste make them perfect for a casual meal. Don't forget to try La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo, which is rich with pork offal, shrimp, and vegetables, offering a complex and satisfying flavor profile.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way. It's customary to show respect to elders, and using terms like "po" and "opo" (yes, respectfully) is appreciated. While generally safe, like any urban area, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly.

For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also useful to have the contact numbers for local police precincts and your embassy if applicable. When using public transport like jeepneys or buses, be mindful of your belongings. For transportation within Metro Manila, ride-sharing apps are widely used and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around.

Essential apps for your trip include Google Maps for navigation, Grab for transportation and food delivery, and possibly a translation app if you're not fluent in Tagalog. Having these tools readily available on your smartphone can significantly enhance your travel experience, making it easier to navigate the city, find dining options, and stay connected.

The accommodation does not provide cups for the guests. Though the room reserved was for 3 guests, the towels and slippers are good for 2 only. Despite of these, the stay was still great. The staff are accommodating and welcoming. The service is also fast. Thank you so much!

Staff are nice. But of all the hotels I've been so far, this hotel does not change the towels, beddings every day. There were LOTS of tiny cockroaches on the bathroom every time I opened it. And the worst is, the smell of the cigarette all over the room and cr when we went back to the hotel on the second day. Though they explained that the smell is from the kitchen, we are 101% sure it is from cigar. Good side is their complimentary breakfast everyday.

The staff are friendly and very accommodating. We arrived 2 hours earlier from what I requested time of check-in but they already provided the room as soon as possible. Also, suppose to be we are on 2nd floor but since we have 2 huge luggages they prefer us to stay at 1st floor so we can manage the luggages when time of check out. All in all good stay. Room was so clean. Breakfast is good also and foods are affordable. 😁

We always pick this place whenever I'm sending her off to NAIA the next day because of the garage. They sell toiletries just ask the receptionist. This time we had the room on the 2nd flr and the AC s bad. The room is like a long hallway (bathroom 1st) and the AC facing the hallway/door so the room wouldn't cool down unless your already sleeping (Bathroom Closed and lights out). I hope they would change their slippers into disposables because it's rubber and feels dirty. No hot water for bathing. Overall the place is convenient since it's near the airport (2nd time stating here) but I think it will be our last since she needs hot water to bathe. I would still recommend this place for people since it's cheap, convenient and clean.

The room is large. The mattress was hard not comfort. Air conditioning was old, so it's quite noisy. If you just transit 1 night its okey, coz the location is near the traditional market.

It’s was near the bus station, positioned behind the main raid. It’s quiet location was a surprise and staffs were informative. They have airport transfer too, what a deal.

Good experience and park bed and Breakfast will always be under serious consideration whenever I choose a hotel near NAIA. I recommend it for budget-minded travelers! By the way, I stayed in room 225.

No hot water, they said under maintenance (dunno since when), the floor in the room was so dusty, and how come the breakfast not come with coffee. Need to pay additional charge for coffee.

I'd like to commend the receptionist who checked me in/out. She recognized me upon arrival. It is very heart warming to be remembered by someone you don't see everyday or even know personally.
