I love the cleanliness of the room. It's spacious and comfortable. The pillows are so soft and were generously provided. There was a small refrigerator and kettle which made our stay even more comfortable. There were a lot of shelves to put our things by. Location is great. Near Robinson's mall and a lot more restaurants and convenience stores. The staff were very polite and friendly. Food was superb. I love Vieve Hotel ❤️

Your Manila Travel Guide

Getting to Manila from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Reaching Manila is straightforward, with Ninoy Aquino International Airport serving as the primary gateway for domestic and international flights. You can easily book flight tickets from major hubs like Cebu, Davao, or Iloilo. Once you land, the city is accessible via various transport modes, including the airport shuttle, taxis, and ride-hailing services that operate 24/7 to take you to your destination.

For those traveling from nearby provinces, provincial buses are a common and cost-effective method. Major bus terminals in Cubao and Pasay connect Manila to the northern and southern regions of Luzon. If you are coming from the Visayas or Mindanao, inter-island ferries offer a scenic, albeit longer, route to the Port of Manila. Once you arrive at the terminal or port, local transport like jeepneys or taxis will get you to Ermita.

Navigating the city once you arrive is best done using a combination of the LRT/MRT lines and ride-hailing apps. Manila is a sprawling metropolis, and traffic can be heavy during peak hours. Planning your travel times to avoid the morning and evening rush will make your journey much more pleasant. Always keep a map app handy to track your route and ensure you are heading in the right direction.

Best Time to Visit Manila

The best time to visit Manila is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, the weather is cooler and less humid, making it ideal for walking tours and outdoor sightseeing. You will find that the skies are clearer, providing better conditions for photography and visiting historical sites like Intramuros or the various parks scattered across the city.

The wet season, from June to October, brings more rain and the occasional typhoon. While this is the off-peak season and often results in lower prices for accommodation, you should be prepared for sudden downpours. If you choose to travel during this time, focus on indoor activities such as visiting museums, shopping malls, or enjoying the vibrant culinary scene. Always check the weather forecast before finalizing your travel plans.

Food and Dining in Manila — Filipino Must-Tries

No trip to Manila is complete without sampling the local cuisine. Start with Adobo, a savory dish of meat marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and peppercorns. It is a staple in every Filipino household and can be found in almost any local eatery. The balance of salty and tangy flavors makes it a favorite for both locals and visitors who want an authentic taste of the country.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour soup typically made with tamarind, vegetables, and your choice of pork, fish, or shrimp. It is the ultimate comfort food, especially on a rainy day. For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is the perfect dessert. This shaved ice treat is layered with sweetened beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream, providing a refreshing end to any meal.

If you are feeling adventurous, try Sisig, a sizzling dish made from chopped pork parts, seasoned with calamansi, onions, and chili. It is often served on a hot plate and is a popular choice for dinner or as a snack with drinks. You can find these dishes in various restaurants around Ermita, ranging from casual carinderias to more established dining spots that offer a modern twist on traditional recipes.

Finally, don't miss out on Lechon, the famous roasted pig with crispy skin and tender meat. While often reserved for special occasions, you can find portions of it in many food courts and specialty restaurants. Exploring the local food scene is a great way to immerse yourself in the culture, and the area around your hotel is filled with hidden culinary gems waiting to be discovered by your palate.

Local Culture, Safety and Essential Apps in Manila

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. When interacting with locals, a simple smile and a polite tone go a long way. It is common to use "po" and "opo" when speaking to elders or in formal settings as a sign of respect. Learning a few basic Tagalog phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) or "Magkano?" (How much?) will be greatly appreciated by the people you meet.

Safety in Manila is generally manageable if you take standard precautions. Keep your belongings secure in crowded areas and avoid displaying expensive jewelry or gadgets. In case of emergencies, dial 911 for immediate assistance. It is also wise to keep the contact details of your embassy or consulate saved in your phone. Stick to well-lit areas at night and use reputable transport services to ensure your safety.

Technology makes traveling in Manila much easier. Download Grab for reliable transportation, as it provides transparent pricing and tracking. Google Maps is essential for navigating the complex streets, while the Traveloka app is your best companion for managing your bookings, finding local activities, and accessing exclusive deals. Having these apps installed before you arrive will save you a lot of time and effort.

Lastly, be mindful of local customs when visiting religious sites or government buildings. Dress modestly and observe silence where required. Manila is a city of contrasts, where modern skyscrapers stand next to historic churches. By respecting the local culture and staying aware of your surroundings, you will have a productive and enjoyable stay in the capital of the Philippines.

Me and my wife decided to check out on the same day we checked in as we were so disappointed. First of all, there was no bath towel provided or ready in our room that we had to call the receptionist to request for it. Secondly, the toilet bowl was blocked. And thirdly the last, we’ve seen a lot of baby cockcroaches running around the floor and in the toilet sink! We complaint about it and we were offered another room. But before we move to another room, we decided to check it first and to our dismay, worst than the first one. As we opened the door, big cockcroaches approached us. We wouldn’t recommend this one.

Please remove this hotel from Expedia. The toilets where clogged everyday. Had to call maintenance every day. Everything was an extra charge. They did not clean rooms completely. Airconditioning was not able to cool room effectively. WiFi service was unreliable. Both in room and main lobby. The only thing that worked well was the super tiny tv. I was super disappointed. Even free breakfast included was sub standard. Just to get print outs of documents like flight schedule was 20php per page.

This was in the middle of an Ermita, Manila ghetto. Once you check in if uou must stay in the hotel. Children and families sleeping in the rain 30 feet from the entrance. Beggars everywhere. Young teenage Muslim mothers holding babies on the streets edge asking for pesos. Men urinating on nearby buildings with no regard. The staff were pleasant but the facility was worn and tired looking. I was there from 8pm until 630am. So I toughed it out. BAD CALL! If at all possible avoid this area. Usually I stay at the Marriot by the airport or Herirage Hotel near Mall of Asia but both were full. I have also stayed in a budget hotel fairly close to the airport and Mall of Asia called Aseana City Red Planet which I was new, well maintained but very small rooms. I would have much prefered that property. Also the Golden Phonix Hotel was another hotel I liked in Aseana City but everything was booked that night. In hindsight I would have rather been awake at the airport for the 10 hours instead of being at Vieve Hotel again. There should be a disclaimer mentioning the filth, poverty and the area surrounding the facility.
