Airline Profile & History

China Airlines flights: identify the CI operator

China Airlines is Taiwan's airline using the code CI. It is a different airline from Air China. Match the airline name, flight code and operating carrier when comparing tickets, especially on a journey sold by one airline but flown in part by another.

Traveloka displays available China Airlines itineraries for your selected route and dates. Read the airport pair, arrival day and connection alongside the fare. A flight to Taiwan, an onward connection and a partner-operated segment need different practical preparation; the destination city alone does not explain the journey.

Taipei itineraries and connections

China Airlines' San Francisco–Taipei listings show SFO–TPE options, and San Francisco airport lists its nonstop service to Taipei. Use the airport shown on your ticket when planning an arrival or onward flight rather than assuming all airports serving one city are interchangeable.

For a connection, compare total elapsed time, the operating airline on the onward flight and whether the journey is issued together. A separate ticket may require baggage collection and a new check-in. Leave enough time for those steps; a low price on the second flight does not establish protection if the first flight arrives late.

Economy Discount, Basic, Standard and Flex

China Airlines' Economy fare-family guide separates Discount, Basic, Standard and Flex, with route-specific inclusions. The same Economy cabin can therefore have different checked bags, advance seating and change conditions.

Read the comparison for the route category you are purchasing. A more flexible fare can remove a reissue service charge while a refund charge or fare difference still applies. Choose extra baggage, preferred seating or flexibility for the benefit you need; a fare-family name does not amount to an unrestricted refund promise.

China Airlines checked baggage by route and fare

The checked-baggage guide gives long-haul Economy Discount one bag up to 23 kg, while Basic, Standard and Flex allow two pieces up to 23 kg each. On short-haul Asia flights, Discount and Basic have one piece; Standard and Flex have two.

The Australia–New Zealand route category differs again: Economy Discount and Basic have no included checked bag, while Standard and Flex have one 23 kg piece. Do not copy the long-haul allowance into that itinerary. Premium Economy's standard allowance is two 28 kg pieces and Business two 32 kg pieces. Standard bag dimensions are 158 cm in total.

Apply the allowance printed on your issued ticket, including any partner or membership conditions. Piece allowance means each suitcase must meet its own weight limit; it does not create one heavier bag from the sum of two allowances.

Carry-on size and the personal item

China Airlines' cabin-baggage rules allow Economy and Premium Economy one piece up to 7 kg and 56 × 36 × 23 cm, plus one personal item up to 40 × 30 × 15 cm. Business permits two cabin pieces, each up to 7 kg, plus the personal item.

Include wheels, handles and pockets when measuring. Cabin storage can require an otherwise eligible bag to be checked at the gate, so keep documents and essentials in the smaller item. Partner-operated flights need the partner's cabin restrictions as well as your ticket's checked-baggage allowance.

Online check-in: the U.S. exception matters

The published China Airlines online check-in window is generally 48 hours to 60 minutes before departure. For U.S. flights, including Guam, the opening time is 24 hours before departure instead. Use your airline reference and passenger details from the issued ticket.

An online check-in confirmation does not remove counter document checks or bag drop. Follow the instructions for your departure airport and operator. Save the boarding pass when available, and retain the e-ticket separately: one records the purchase and the other enables boarding after check-in.

Seats and cabin choice

Check the seat-selection entitlement on the fare you are buying. A regular seat, a preferred location and a seat with more space can have different conditions. Travelers wishing to sit together should review the actual selection options rather than assume adjacent seats come with any Economy purchase.

On a connecting trip, compare the cabin and aircraft on each segment. A premium long-haul flight can connect to a shorter flight with a different layout. A changeable fare and a cabin upgrade answer different needs, so assess them separately before adding either to the booking.

Manage a China Airlines ticket bought on Traveloka

Keep the Traveloka order and the airline reservation reference. Airline trip tools can help with available reservation services; purchase-related changes or refunds for a Traveloka-issued ticket should start with the options or support in your Traveloka booking.

Request changes before the relevant deadline and read the total for the revised itinerary. Fare differences, service charges and the treatment of paid extras are separate issues. If the airline changes the schedule, use the notice for that booking rather than assuming voluntary-cancellation rules describe the available remedy.

Compare the full China Airlines journey

Use the Traveloka flight search to compare CI options for your route and dates. Include the checked bags, seating and connection time you need in the comparison. Review any promotion's eligibility and payment terms before relying on the discount.

Before paying, match passenger names to travel documents and confirm both airports and the arrival date. Retain the issued ticket and confirmations for extras. Prices and availability vary, so use the current search result instead of a fixed fare or a supposedly guaranteed cheapest booking day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is China Airlines the same as Air China?

No. China Airlines uses CI and is Taiwan's airline. Air China is a different carrier. Read the airline name and operating-carrier line on every segment before applying baggage, seating or check-in rules.

Does every China Airlines Economy ticket include two checked bags?

No. Long-haul Economy Discount includes one 23 kg piece, while Basic, Standard and Flex include two. Short-haul Asia and Australia–New Zealand allowances differ. Use the route-specific baggage line on your issued ticket.

What size carry-on does China Airlines allow?

Economy and Premium Economy allow one cabin bag up to 7 kg and 56 × 36 × 23 cm, plus a personal item up to 40 × 30 × 15 cm. Measure wheels and handles, and check the operating airline on partner flights.

Are bags included between Australia and New Zealand?

China Airlines' Economy Discount and Basic fares in this route category exclude checked baggage. Standard and Flex include one 23 kg piece. Confirm the allowance offered for your journey before assuming a long-haul rule applies.

When does China Airlines online check-in open?

Usually 48 hours before departure, closing 60 minutes before. U.S. flights, including Guam, instead open 24 hours before departure. Follow airport document-check and bag-drop instructions even after checking in online.

Does a Flex fare guarantee a free refund?

Do not assume that it does. China Airlines distinguishes reissue, refund and no-show conditions, and a fare difference can apply to replacement flights. Read the specific fare rules before choosing Flex for a possible cancellation.

How do I change a CI booking made on Traveloka?

Start with your Traveloka booking's change or support options. Keep the airline reservation reference for trip tools and check-in. Review the new fare, applicable charges, connection and handling of paid bags or seats before confirmation.

How can I compare China Airlines ticket prices?

Compare available itineraries for your dates with the bags, seats and flexibility you need. Review the airports, operating airlines and connection time as well as price. Apply a promotion only after confirming its current eligibility and conditions.
