Suvarnabhumi Airport is about 25 km east of central Bangkok, in Samut Prakan province.
Take the Airport Rail Link City Line from the station below the terminal. It reaches Phaya Thai in about 26 to 30 minutes, where you can change to the BTS Skytrain.
Suvarnabhumi comes from Sanskrit and means "land of gold".
SAT-1 is a satellite concourse with extra gates. It is linked to the main terminal of Suvarnabhumi Airport by an automated people mover.
Thai Airways International uses Suvarnabhumi as its main hub. Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia and Thai Vietjet Air also have bases there.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is Bangkok's main international airport and a major hub for South-East Asia. Its IATA code is BKK and its ICAO code is VTBS. The name comes from Sanskrit and means "land of gold". The airport opened in 2006, taking over from Don Mueang as the city's main international airport.
The airport lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok, in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province. Motorway 7 runs past it, linking the capital with Thailand's eastern seaboard.
Suvarnabhumi has one very large main terminal building. A separate satellite concourse, SAT-1, adds extra gates. An automated people mover runs underground between the main terminal and SAT-1, so allow a little extra time if your gate is there. The terminal has a wide range of shops, restaurants, lounges and duty-free outlets.
The airport is the main hub of Thai Airways International. It is also a base for carriers including Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia and Thai Vietjet Air. Many foreign airlines fly in too, so you can reach destinations across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Australia from here.
Bangkok's classic sights include the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun along the Chao Phraya River. Weekend shoppers head to Chatuchak Market, while Sukhumvit and Silom are known for food and nightlife. Pattaya and the eastern coast are reachable by road from the airport.
Bangkok has two airports. Suvarnabhumi (BKK) handles most full-service international flights, while Don Mueang (DMK) is used by many low-cost airlines. Check which one your ticket shows. The terminal is big, so give yourself time for check-in, immigration and the walk to your gate.
