Arima Onsen Arima Onsen is located in Arima-cho, Kita-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is a sanatorium built by Buddhist monks in the 8th century. It is the oldest hot spring in the Kansai region and one of the three most famous hot springs in Japan. The water of Arima Onsen is rich in minerals, and the spring water contains iron salts at a concentration about twice that of seawater. It is divided into the "gold spring" with a rust-red color and the "silver spring" with a colorless and transparent carbonic acid spring.
