If Krabi’s tranquil beaches and stunning limestone cliffs are calling you, you can make your way from Phuket via a budget-friendly bus ride, a scenic ferry, or a comfortable road trip by car. Just a few hours apart, here’s everything you need to know for your journey from Phuket to Krabi. 

Krabi is located around 150 kms west of Phuket, and depending on the mode of transport you’re taking, the journey should take anywhere between 1.5 and 4 hours. 

You can break up your journey by stopping in Phang Nga to take in its dramatic limestone karsts. And while you’re there, be sure to visit Khao Phing Kan island, also known as the James Bond Island, where the needle-like rock, Ko Tapu, starred in the 1974 James Bond film, The Man with the Golden Gun.

The bus will take around 3-5 hours, depending on traffic and the number of stops scheduled along the way. While the journey is long, the bus ride will cost you only AU$12-16, depending on what day of the week you’re travelling. Bus tickets are usually more expensive on the weekends.

Taxis are a hassle-free and comfortable choice for travellers with a bit of luggage, or those simply looking for an easy door-to-door service. Just pre-book online or book at Phuket Airport with a reputable provider such as UniTransfers, Taxiyo or Kiwitaxi and you’ll be good to go.

While taxis offer a seamless service, they are definitely on the pricier side, as the ride is long, taking 2.5 to 3 hours. Expect to pay around AU$140 for this journey. 

Travelling by ferry offers a relaxing and efficient way to reach Krabi. Take in the stunning view of the Andaman Sea, islands, and coastlines as you make your journey from Phuket to Krabi. 

A ferry ride from Phuket to Krabi is around 50 kms and operates from Rassada Pier and Bang Rong Pier. Rassada Pier is near the town centre, while Bang Rong Pier is near Phuket Airport. A ticket costs around AU$26-54, and the journey takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.

The ferry operates on a fixed timetable, usually once a day in the morning or midday, but its schedule is weather-dependent, so you’ll need to plan your journey accordingly. You can book online or in person at the pier. 

You’ll likely stop at Koh Phi Phi along the way, so enjoy the stunning scenery, or even a brief wander around the island, on the way!

Speedboats offer an exhilarating adventure and are the fastest way to travel between Phuket and Krabi. 

Departing from Bang Rong Pier or Rassada Pier, you’ll arrive either at Railay East Pier or Nopparat Thara Pier near Ao Nang Beach. The journey is quick, taking 1 hour 20 minutes to 2 hours, and costs around AU$40-50 per person. 

Book your speedboat in advance online and ensure you check the luggage allowance on speedboats, as it may be limited.  

The cheapest way to get from Phuket to Krabi is by hopping on a public bus, but unfortunately it can be a slow journey.

The fastest way to travel from Phuket to Krabi is by speedboat, which takes between 1 hour and 20 minutes and around 2 hours. There are up to 18 departures a day, with rides available usually in the early morning, midday, and early afternoon. It’s important to note that speedboats are weather-dependent. Rough seas or heavy rain can cause delays, rescheduled departures or cancellations.
