The KAI Suite Class Compartment is the pinnacle of luxury rail travel in Indonesia, designed to replicate the experience of an international first-class airline cabin. This Suite Class Compartment is designed to provide maximum customer privacy, with only 16 private spaces in one train for each customer.

Launched in October 2023, it serves as a modern revival of the legendary "Bima" sleeper service.

Features of the KAI Suite Class Compartment

The defining feature that stands this class apart from the rest is the private compartments (booths) with a sliding door, ensuring maximum privacy.

Smart Seats: The seats can recline 180° (full flat) to become a bed. They also include a massage feature with various modes and adjustable seat heating.
Entertainment: A private Train Onboard Infotainment System (touchscreen tablet) with movies, music, and TV channels.
Full-Service Dining: Passengers receive a 3-course meal (appetizer, main course, and dessert) plus snacks and premium drinks.
Luxury Toilets: Spacious, granite-clad restrooms featuring automatic Japanese-style toilets, automatic sinks, and hand dryers.
Design: The interior features a golden-brown aesthetic with motifs inspired by the Dayak tribe of Kalimantan.

KAI Suite Class routes

The Suite Class isn't available on all trains, and, instead, just on a few select services and routes. Also, it's not a standalone train but a specific carriage attached to high-end executive trains.

Suite class on KAI Trains vs First class on planes

Admittedly, the train does take up to 10 hours to travel between Jakarta and Surabaya, while planes take just 90 minutes. So, you might be wondering why anyone would take the train. Here's a few reasons why:

Scenic views: Take in the views of the Javanese countryside as you ride the rails across the island, which you won't see for more than a few minutes upon take-off and landing if you fly
Go from city centre to city centre: Train stations tend to be much more central than airports, meaning once you complete your rail journey you'll be able to easily get to any central accommodations without the extra time on transfers or cost
Privacy: These suites are exactly that suites. You'll get a luxurious, private room aboard the train.
Cost: The train is a fraction of the cost you'll pay for a business or first-class ticket on the plane. KAI fares are around IDR 1,950,000 to IDR 2,500,000 (AU$165-AU$215), while the flight will set you back IDR 3,500,000 to IDR 5,500,000 (AU$300-AU$470)if you fly with Garuda Indonesia.

Compartment trains are available to book via Traveloka

Currently, Suite Class Compartment trains are operated on Bima trains on the Gambir - Surabaya Gubeng PP route and Argo Semeru trains on the Gambir - Surabaya Gubeng PP route.

The KAI Suite Class Compartment train is the perfect choice for those of you who are looking for a luxurious and comfortable train travel experience. With premium facilities, classy service and high privacy, traveling on the KAI Suite Class Compartment Train will be an unforgettable memory.
