Hawaii’s largest airport and where flights from Australia will land, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL,) sits about 5 kms west of downtown Honolulu. Getting to the airport from the city is simple, and you have options for every budget and group size.

You often find the lowest fares in August and October, with February and March close behind. These months bring warm water, thinner crowds, and sharper hotel pricing. Prices usually spike from April to June and around major holidays. Book earlier, up to two months before take-off, to snag better value.

Aussies visiting the United States for less than 90 days can usually apply online for an ESTA and travel under the Visa Waiver Program. Apply as soon as your plans are set and allow up to 72 hours for approval. The ESTA is valid for two years on the same passport. 

Some travellers are not eligible for the VWP and will need a visa instead. Frequent travellers can apply directly to the US Global Entry program for faster entry, subject to eligibility checks.
