What Guests Say About Their Stay

We booked a last-minute 2-night stay at Heythrop Hotel & Spa in mid-April for a birthday, with a great deal including breakfast, dinner, and wine. The estate is beautiful and peaceful, with an impressive manor setting. Check-in was smooth, though parking can be a long walk—use the drop-off if needed. Our quiet North Wing room was comfortable, slightly warm but with opening windows, a nice bathroom, and handy night lighting. Facilities were excellent—we used the pool, hot tub, and steam room (note early closing), and the golf course looked great. Evening entertainment was enjoyable, and there were plenty of relaxing lounges, games, and a billiards room. Dining was very good: Brasserie 32 and The Duke both offered great food and service, and breakfast was plentiful and self-service. The atmosphere was calm and suited to a more mature crowd. It’s cashless, so bring a card, and pre-book activities early. Expect lots of walking due to the hotel’s size. Overall, we loved our stay and would happily return.

Fantastic spa facilities, gorgeous food in the Manor House ( pretty standard pub fare in Travelling Duke) really impressive entertainment which far exceeded expectation’s. Vast majority of staff were excellent ( only exception being the 2 reluctant waitresses who were drafted in to assist in the breakfast service in the main restaurant on Thursday, they provided no assistance whatsoever to the very overwhelmed and hard working staff already there). We were very impressed with the venue, its picturesque setting and the fact that facilities were available before and after check in/ out. A fantastic short break/ we will be back

The bedroom was spacious and clean. Everywhere was clean and in good condition - no peeling paint or mustiness you sometimes get with old buildings. The staff could not do enough for you. Everywhere was warm and comfortable. The bars were busy enough to have ambience, but not packed. The pool was brill.

Reception was very busy and had to queue on most occasions. Receptionists were helpful but needed more than one person on duty at busy times. Room was comfortable and a good size. Bar staff in the Bassey bar went missing for long periods of time on the 23rd April.

Relaxing and welcoming stay. Deluxe room was very tastefully decorated with comfy bed and very quiet (south wing). Plenty to do and great for walking as it has 440 acres of varied grounds from formal gardens, woodlands with streams, croquet lawns. Amazing views from the guest lounge areas and a modern spa.

The main building was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately the remaining seating areas throughout the hotel were not in keeping and had a very low key, local club, bar style feel. Our biggest complaint was that we had to book a time slot for breakfast. The only time slot available was 07.45, which was far too early for us however it was take it or leave it. The more annoying point was when we arrived, we were asked to wait at the door, the staff were not ready, tables were still being laid and food and drinks were still being prepared. While we stayed for 2 nights, 3 days, because we hadn’t booked prior to arriving, we were unable to eat in the main restaurant for breakfast or dinner which was very disappointing as I assumed we would be able to book on arrival for this restaurant. This restaurant is in the main building and very beautiful. The grounds were very beautiful though I wouldn’t book this accommodation again. I believed that this was going to be a luxury country hotel with excellent service. It was more of a budget style break, though not with a budget price tag.
