What Guests Say About Their Stay

Got to say this hotel is one of my favourite places to stay in the Macclesfield area.

The hotel comprises a lovely old main house, to which a large block of more functional 70s/80s rooms are attached. The room was clean and well equipped, although a little dated. The staff were friendly and welcoming although we did have to wait a bit for someone to appear when we checked in around 7pm. Breakfast was very good, with food cooked to order and presented well. A great location for the village, canal and access for great walking in the hills. Would stay again and recommend.

Clean beautiful room, gorgeous decor throughout hotel. Like a fairytale! Friendly staff. A bit slow on service because there didn’t seem to be many employees.

For what we paid the hotel was value for money. The staff were lovely and helpful (reason for 4 stars). The breakfast was good. The gardens and views from the hotel were lovely however there was not much within walking distance (apart from canal) . Didn't feel the evening meal was value for money, particularly the butterfly chicken burger which was advertised on the menu as butterfly chicken with cheese, fries and rocket salad. In my opinion the cheese tasted like a cheese sauce out of a bottle and was cold and the salad consisted of a few leaves inside the burger.

The building was nice but the room had a dirty bath, not dusted room and the seal had gone on the shower so water flooded everywhere. The restaurant had an issue so it was 2 3/4 hours before our food was served. We literally could have driven home and had tea and come back within that time. But our bed was comfy.

Hotel was nice, and the lobby, bar and restaurant areas and the bedrooms were nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good for dogs. Drinks prices at the bar are very steep, £48 for one bottle and one glass of house wine. Would stay again, but probably go into the town to eat and drink next time.

The hotel has an impressive exterior and interesting period decor. We upgraded to a superior double room, but it was disappointing: the heating didn’t work, and the TV signal was unreliable. Parking was challenging, and one staff member at breakfast was rude. Upon returning from a day trip, we found our door left open, putting our belongings at risk, and our room had not been serviced or restocked despite reporting it. A lovely building, but service and maintenance need improvement.

Although it was clean the room that I had this time needed some upgrading, for example there was no toilet roll holder, just holes in the wall where it had been, grout was missing between the bathroom floor tiles. The walk from the car park was completely dark and uneven/potholed. That made it unsafe. However, the staff made up for the poor impression that condition of the premises. Very good breakfast and good service.

Room was very good and quiet. Bathroom could have been cleaner in places. Faulty light reported but no action as was the crack in the bathroom basin. Restaurant offer was average with a regular trail of customers passing through with luggage.

Room was OK (King Suite), neighboured with another room - unfortunately neighbours were far too loud. (We used ears plugs otherwise we'd need to change rooms. Lack of drinking water in the rooms. The room itself was a bit dim with worn furniture. Bathroom lacked ventilation and thus accrued mold on the blinds. Had several disturbances in the night with noise. Poor signal with a small outdated TV. Good large fluffy bath towels, comfortable bed. Nice view from the window. Good breakfast selection.
